Anyone ever heard of Powerline? www.powerline.com

It is apparently a new technology to get connected via a normal power point, high speed broadband, TV, and Phone connections over a copper wire using the low voltage of a normal power grid.  Say goodbye to SingTel, SCV and all ISP's if this takes off.  Unbelievable, but WHEN can they deliver?

Its a great idea, and several Isreali and US companies have got products for electrical wire Internet connection, but big packets won't move over fast enough, I'd still bet on fiber for the big bandwidth stuff of the future, but for the last mile and low cost, very great and affordable idea.

WHEN is Sing Power going to launch?  Do you know?

Ever heard of Media World Broadcasting?  Apparently they have developed some new algorithms to send audio, video and text at phenominal speeds.  They have concluded an initial captial raising in Oz.  Some kid without a maths degree (age 22) is the monster brain behind the algorithm.  Read about it in Chanticleer in the Aust Fin Review 1/9/2001.

You wanna get some of this stock.... well maybe not yet....

Of all places, I would think that Singapore would be aggressively laying fiber. With so much of the population collected into high-density HDB towers, you might be able to make that pay off. Eventually. How about running it through these monsterous storm drains?

JLC,
this powerline technology uses existing copper wire.  No need to lay any cable/wire or fibre optic.  The technology moves massive amounts of data on traditional copper wire and all houses/HDB's are already wired.  Just plug in (at the power point) and you are on-line.

I'm midway through the initial year contract for singtel broadband internet connections.  I believe this is a discounted rate.  Does anyone know what the monthly cost jumps to after the 1st year, and if it's really expensive, are there other similar deals with other companies?
PS
Can you guess I'm a complete non techo?

Beachy,

Singtel comes up with new promotions all the time. I just signed up for a new discounted rate. (Dropped my monthly cost from $118 to $75.)

You should check their website for what's happening.

No worries Blitz, I understand the technology. Simply wondering if the impending fiber fiasco in the US could be avoided here by virtue of population distribution.

And these huge channels already cut in the street. Empty. US telecom COOs would be lining up to give their right hand and half their souls for right-of-way.
