Does anyone has the VCD ? Want to watch it after reading the reviews on the Net.

nev : I didn't even know they screened it at the cinema here ! Apparently only for a very short time...

I saw it at Cathay Cineleisure, it was only showing there and only for two weeks. It's rather explicit too... rated R(A). I was quite surprised by the blatant sex scenes, actually. Although I must admit it was artfully done and truly achieved the desired effect (shock & depression). I came out of the cinema feeling somewhat black and blue.

Anyway, get hold of the VCD if you can. This one's a cult classic.

(PS. Have you seen "Audition"? Goriest movie I've seen!)

Excellent movie from Darren A., the director of "Pi", but would not consider it a cult movie.  More a social commentary movie on consumerism, and different addictions (in this movie's case, it was to weight loss, drugs, money and fame in the form of an appearance in a tv show).

Wasn't really any explicit sex scenes either, and I had watched the Director's Cut.  Splendid acting from Ellen Burstyn as a weight loss pills-popping mom and not-so-well known (but soon-to-be megastar because of her performance in the upcoming "A Beautiful Mind") Jennifer Connelly as a junkie.  This movie is a good reason for people not to ever try any kind of drugs.

Nev and I seem to see the same films - and you are right - audition made me shudder as well - eeee.

I watched requium for a dream in Melbourne early last year - must say i thought it was about the best anti drugs message I have ever watched.  Saw it again up here at orchard and not that much was cut.

The film is provocative and boy does it hit the spot. The essential message is 'hey drugs work - they make you happy - they make you lose weight to fit in to that red dress that you havent been able to wear in 5 years - they make you lots of money - but the costs are profound and the piper must always be paid. Seeing that girl at the party on the table at the end of the film is sickening and to then see her holding tightly to her nights work shows the true cost of hard drugs on the human spirit
