Just realized something today which made me quite sad and reminded me of the Rod Stewart's song, "Some guys have all the luck, some guys have all the pain...Oh oh"

One of my workmates has it all--the looks, the brains, the personality--and he knows how to use all these assets to get places.  A hot girlfriend, a nice condo, a hot car and he is in line for the next promotion.

I am just an average Joe with average talent and less than average look, sigh...  I hope there's a next life!

Cheer up, YL.. things may look great for your workmate on the outside but you wouldn't know the kind of struggles he may be going thru, good looks or not. Everyone has ups and downs in life. Don't we all wish everything is beautiful and wonderful in life. Make the best of what you are and have.

I don't mind losing my soul for a few years!

Have you thought about hiring someone to assassinate your workmate? Then you can assume his identity; live in his condo etc.

Have you seen The Talented Mr Ripley?

Disposing of the body might be a problem. I suggest buying a large deep freeze (sulphuric acid in the bath is messy and you could get into trouble with the authorities if they have to come and unblock the drains).

Well at the end of the day, everyone breaks even. You don't win or lose more than the next guy.

Remember that.

For all you know your workmate may cry everynight to sleep.

Hey Yiguo, here's something to do one night.
Go to Ghorka Grill in Smith Street, Chinatown. It's a very small but relaxed and quiet place that makes the best Nepalese food I've ever tasted.
There's a young guy there (always there)who has very severe acne, but God does he have a beautiful beautiful way about him. I bet he has NO idea that he's so utterly beautiful in his very being.
Go read "The Little Prince", that children's book by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. In it towards the end, the Little Prince is told " And now here is my secret, a very simple secret. It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye".
And don't forget to check out Ghorka Grill afterwards.

Is he really lucky? Does this colleague really know whether women choose him because of the way he looks, or because of his character?

Is it really rewarding to be given everything you want just because of the way you look?

Is he confident? Or is it that his lack of confidence makes him go for the "easy kill" and get his way?

I knew a guy in Tokyo who would play the numbers. Chat up nearly every girl he came across - if he "tricked" one girl in every 10, then he pulled at least once or twice a week. Was he confident? The heck he wasn't - one of the most insecure people I have met. But people THOUGHT he was confident.

As human beings we tend to concentrate on our own weak points to the exclusion of our positive points. We love thinking that others have it better than us. We love thinking we are so poor because we have a strange nose, or small butt, no muscles or no boobs.

Forget it all - it's all a huge bunch of balloney. Live your life - be yourself, be pleasant and you'll find people respond whatever you look like and there'll always be someone who appreciates who you are. The longer you hide yourself behind your own fragile shell, the longer it will take to realise your potential.

Bluemousemonkey, I'm with you on the St Exupery saying. It is so elegantly simple, so fundamental and totally true. Guideline for life.

Yiguo,

I'm one of those guys . . . and I apologize.

Soso,

One or two girls a week?  And you lived in Japan how many years before you met your wife?  Let me do the math.  You're a God.  I guess looking like a pink Richard Gere lets you get away with murder, eh?

Dr. O,

Your diagnosis is right on the mark.  God, I'd be obnoxious if I didn't have that one last dangling thread of humility.

Truth be told ... yeah, guys like that can make life seem unfair.
