Lincoln was shot in Ford's Theater, but Monroe had Kennedy in the Lincoln Bedroom.

Are you SURE Lee Harvey shot Kennedy?  I heard it was.... aliens.  No, no I'm kidding??  It was the... mafia.  Joe did a deal to get Jack elected and then appointed his brother Attorney General who cracked down on the Mafiosa contradicting the "DEAL" done by Joseph to get Jack elected.  Result; one dead president... Conspiracy abounds...

Lincoln was shot in Ford theatre and Booth was caught in a barn, not a warehouse.

Here's some differences though :

Lincoln was a Republican, Kennedy was a Democrat.

Lincoln was born poor in a filthy loghouse, Kennedy was born filthy rich in a mansion.

Lincoln was tall (6'6"), Kennedy was relatively short (5'10").

Lincoln was a loyal husband, never leaving Mary Todd even when she was mentally unstable, Kennedy was the swinger of the 60s.

Lincoln was a wartime president but never fought in a war, Kennedy fought in WWII but presided over a Cold War period.

Lincoln's son Robert was a Cabinet politician, Kennedy's son John was a closet politician.

Lincoln died in his 50s, Kennedy died in his 40s.

Lincoln was a Christian, Kennedy was a Catholic.

Lincoln wrote his own speeches, Kennedy has most of his written by ghostwriter Ted Sorensen.

Lincoln died one day after he was shot, Kennedy died immediately.

Lincoln was "The Great Emancipator," liberating thousands of slaves from the cotton fields of the south, Kennedy liberated women down south.

Margaret Thatcher declared war on Argentina over the Falklands when her election prospects didn't look too good - She won the election.

Bill Clinton decided to bomb Iraq on the day before the decision over impeachment was to be made - He was not impeached.

Coincidence? No just two examples of the "timing" of events some politicians use to  hang on power.

"Lincoln was a Christian, Kennedy was a Catholic."

I believe Catholics are Christians...

If only everyone agreed simply, the world would be a better place.

Nevertheless, Kennedy remains the only Catholic to have ever held the highest office in the US.  All the other presidents were all Christians, none were atheist.

Pomp, do you mean all the other Presidents were Anglicans or whatever the equivalent is in the States?

I thought Catholics were Christians.

Now Sue, you know better than that... only SOME Catholics are Christians... not all.

Sue - Yes, all and every single U.S. president have been a Caucasian Christian male, Episcopalian, Anglican or otherwise.  The law does not specify that this be the case although it does state that the incumbent must be born in the US and be over 35 years' old (origin and age are not a requirement for other executive offices such as governorship).  To date, Kennedy has been the only Catholic.  Lieberman would be the first Jewish VP if Gore wins.

When you say all Catholics are Christians, it's a very general statement that not all will agree with.  Many Catholics will insist that Christians are Catholics, and not the other way round since Christianity (as defined by the Church of England during Henry VIII's reign) splintered off Catholicism.

However, if you are talking about Christianity as the ancient undivided Christian church, and call its followers Christians, then yes, Catholics are indeed Christians.

I have to disagree with Pomp. Christian is the more generic term, referring as it does to all who believe in the divinity of Christ--keeping in mind that not everyone who has an affiliation with a Christian church has a firm grasp on its theology. Using that broad definition then, Catholics are Christians, as are members of other Christian churches such as the Church of England, the Methodists, the Baptists, the Lutherans, and a rather startling variety of others. Thus, Catholics are Christians, but not the only Christians. How did we get into this?

I don't think I said that Catholics are not Christians.  Just that the term Catholic in itself means that there is a distinction drawn between the two.  The difference (and the common ground) between the two is something we all know.  That was the point I was trying to make.

We had a Sri Lankan maid and when she came for the job interview we asked her if she had a religion. She replied that she was a Catholic. Our teenage daughter said that she was surprised that she was a Christian as she thought that she would have an Eastern religion instead. The maid replied, "I'm not a Christian, I'm Catholic".

Actually, in the Church of England Eucharist, from the ancient Book of Common Prayer, believers say that ..."I believe in One Holy Catholick (sic) and Apostolic Church...". Note it says Catholic and not Roman Catholic.

My understanding that to be a Christian you have to believe in the Holy Trinity, the Resurrection and for Jesus Christ to be your personal Saviour. I don't think it comes down to your denomination (we all have "preferred brands" in everything from rock music to sports teams and the same goes for me in church services: for example I don't personally like the 'happy clappy' services, I'm more comfortable with a more 'sedate' service) - although I would I think have doubts about some sects such as the Christian Scientists, Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses (who are banned in Singapore).
