I've got my MD in town all week and need to book a restaurant - somewhere lively with good food and atmosphere. Can anyone suggest anything -I've already booked Mezza9 for one evening.

Bar Blu at the Shangri La is lovely if price is no object! Otherwise the Grill on Devonshire is also very good.

Any of the restaurants on Club Street as the whole street has atmosphere all nights of the week.

My fave is Indochine, but Cafe Gypsy is also superb, and Red serves the best Szechuan food in town.

Make the most of him being here for a gastronomy-fest!

Pauline, try 'Indocine' at Waterloo Street - outdoor dining in a very nice, green setting. Alternatively, 'Senso" - italian - and 'L'Angelus' - french - both located at Club Street. For a deluxe dinner I can highly recommend 'La Fete du Cuisinier' - New Orleans/Creole food - located almost next to Indochine at Waterloo Street.

Gaetano's in Club Street is terrific - lots of corporate clients, so not particularly romantic, but truly excellent food. You can book a private room is there's going to be a few of you.

Gaetano, that's the place where I was got served 4 raviolis as a main course.... I wasn't very impressed with the food, nor with the terrible service.

All,

Thanks for the recommendations, tried to book Indochine but was fully booked so tried Cafe Gypsy instead.  We started at Bar Savanah first and the whole evening was great - the food (and wine!) at Cafe Gypsy was fab and everyone soon relaxed and enjoyed themselves.

Thanks again.

Marmelade is excellent food and atmosphere, so is Butterbean, both on Purvis Street, and suitable for casual business dinners.

Snappers in the Ritz is worth a look or one of the Japanese hotel restaurants such as the one in the Pan Pacific.

Want to impress?
Try the all new Rang Mahal (Indian Fine dining at its best). It's at the Pan Pacific now that the Imperial has gone.
