I have seen A, B or C in bold black lettering on a light blue a4 size paper, laminated and stuck up at all fast food outlets, ie, foodcourts, some resturants and even McDonalds. Does anyone know the significance of these letters??

Well B&C are supposed to be ok too but I think it is up to the inspector on the day. I have seen a B that should have been a Z. Best to eyeball them yourself if you can.

I've tried C without any problems... helps to toughen up your stomach...so you can tolerate food in Malaysia.

Old regulation was that it had to be prominently displayed on the front of the stall. New regulation (some time earlier this year) is that it just has to be displayed *somewhere* around the stall. Have never had any problems buying from the Bs and Cs. The As tend to be in sterile foodcourts where the food is all prepared by a central kitchen and trucked to the premises. Lacks a certain je ne said quoi.

Hawker center Bs & Cs may have some organic, bacterial contamination...if you're smart, you'll use them to improve your health and immune system The As are often clean corporate stalls...they have no germs --just cancer-causing chemicals that food chains love to insert in their dishes.

"clean corporate stalls" What the hell? There are auntie and uncle stalls that have an A rating. And there are local places with C ratings serving MSG laced food with 40g of fat per serving. Cactus - Not everything heartlander is golden, not everything "cosmopolitan" is crap.

While I firmly believe that food should be prepared and served hygienically, it's not always so. This problem is exacerbated by the lack of education and/or indiscipline of the food sellers. Many of you on this board are likely to go to Malaysia. My suggestion is to go there and toughen up your stomach. You'd not have any problems eating food here from then on.
