Hi, I just had my amniocentesis test on Wed and was given some medicines to take after that. My gyne said the medicines are for preventing infection....and are safe to take during pregnancy! Did anyone experience the same before? Thanks in advance for your opinions!

No. But had my amnio years ago, so this could be the latest wisdom.  Why don't you pop into Gleneagles 24 hour walk in clinic and have a chat with the doc on duty there and see what he says? They are usually excellent docs and waiting time is very short.

Maybe they could refer you to a gynae there who could give you a second opinion on this also.

Or, perhaps a quick long distance call to your doc back home?

Then you are probably OK. Was it anitibiotics you were given? Think the choice to take medication of any kind during pregnancy is a personal thing. You could try reading the leaflet in your meds box or if there isn't a leaflet then look it up on the net. Good luck.

If they are antibiotics, you might want to check again if it is really necessary. No Singapore doctor will advise against them, but there are side effects to your immunity/intestinal flora, and you could become more suceptible to thrush/candida infection, which is more than uncomfortable and can be passed on to your baby.
I had a hindwater rupture 3 days before I gave birth, means amniotic fluid trickling down while renewing itself. In a hospital setting, I would probably have been given antibiotics to prevent infection. I opted for high doses of Vitamin C and garlic instead, both powerful anti-infection agents. I had no problems at all. Call a naturopath to discuss. Tina Jenkins is specialised on women's issues and might give you some free advice on the phone. It also depends on your personal constitution, whether you're fit and healthy, or run down, eat lots of junk and have a unfavourable medical history.
Get a second opinion.

I had a CVS Test done also at Thompson in September and i was also given antiobiotics to take, they are for making sure you dont get an infection and also to make sure you dont have a miscarraige,  everything has been fine. I also have a friend who had an Aminocentseis done also at Thomspon this year as well as was given the same medication and everything for her has also been fine.

What I suppose bothers people about taking medication during pregnancy is that the potential effects are unknown. Some people don't even take aspirin or paracetamol and avoid tea, coffee, etc. It's a personal choice. Clearly some docs offer antibiotics as a precaution and to cover their backs.

Have had amnios for 2 pregnancies here now at TMC and given antibiotics I think both times.  Had no side effects or problems.  When they do an amnio there is a slight increased risk of infection as they are piercing the membrane which would otherwise remain sterile. Just a precaution.  Ask your doc if you are concerned about taking the meds though.

You were at more risk from the amnio than you are from taking antibiotics to prevent an infection (which could definitely pose a risk to your unborn).
