Am expecting my first baby in Oct..
Considering using cloth type nappies as there has being quite a  lot of talk about these lately.....

Was wondering have any mums here in  Singapore used them (recently) and where can  they be  purchased as well as  nappy liners to go along with them?

thanks in advance for advice !!!

I have a baby turning 1 month soon and I use nappies on her only during the daytime.  At night I switch to disposables.

Even though they're cheaper and gentler to baby's skin, nappies need more immediate changing as they don't have the absorbing mechanisms like disposables - which means they get drenched and pose risks of nappy rash.  Also, they don't have the re-sealable tabs that allow you to open and close so easily to check the status within.

It'll be a good idea to get your baby some waterproof diaper pants so that it won't be so messy when her nappies do get drenched.

All major baby goods stores sell nappies & nappy liners.  Will refrain from naming shop names as I don't think I'm allowed to in this board...

Good Luck!

Hi, I'm due to go through the same thing in two months! After quite a bit of research I'm going to give Fuzzi Bunz and maybe MothersEase or Happy Heiny's a go - these are more the 'all in one' type of nappies that are very similar in style to disposables. The major downside is that they are quite expensive in their initial outlay, so I'm just going to try with a couple first and if they work out will invest in more. Will let you know how it goes. I'm guessing that I'll end up using a mixture of re-usables and disposables.

Good luck!

Hello to the original poster.  I am due end Sept and am also going through this quest, determined to go cloth but struggling to find any in Singapore.  Lets help each other by posting to this message with what we find.  I can give you all the sites which relate to buying in the UK if you like but I really want to find something here.  Good luck with your pregnancy!

Thanks to all who replied with advice and comments.
To Sept mum I did as B and S suggested and did a search with google. It  seems you can get these type of nappies in Singapore.

I use cloth nappies here in Singapore, but bought them in UK.  The all in ones are great, but I found that they didnt quite hold in the new born poo as effectively as the seperate nappy and outer.  There are some really cute reusable nappies out there if you do your research.  I use disposables at night tho as reusables get very wet.  Also found there was no need for nappisan as the ones I bought are just bunged in the washing machine, without soaking!!

Hi. I used them exclusively for my daughter until she was about 6 months, apart from when travelling or out for the whole day, and then mixed them with disposables.  Now she is over one i tend just to use the terries for night time.

I ordered them from the UK.  I would type in the website address i ordered them from but this would probably get deleted.  Do a search for the nappy lady - a UK site - website URL is how it sounds.  They have a good comparison on the site of different brands and they assign you an advisor to help with ordering etc.

I wasn't too impressed with the all in ones and ended up with separate terry and cover.  They both were either velcro (works just like disposables to open and close) or snaps.  Very easy.  I put them all in a sealed plastic bin and chucked them in the washer over night.  When they are still on breast/bottle you don't need to even rinse the poo - won't get too graphic here!  I was a bit skeptical when told this but it's true, cleans just as well.

It takes a little adjusting to get used to, but after that it's pretty straightforward really.  In terms of numbers I had 15 terry nappies and 4 of the breathable plastic wraps for 0-6 months in the first size, and this was enough to have a full load of laundry with a few spare to use while the laundry was on.

HI again first timer 21 - done a lot more research on this and although they sell some brands in Singapore there aren't many, and a lot are not suitable for newborns.  Whoever mentioned the nappy lady is right, its a great site for info, also kittykins sells lots of types so good for comparison. My research has lead me to believe that nappies and wraps are going to be best for newborns as the sizing is better to contain the mess, and then for later on it seems some all in ones in 'one size' will probably be good.  I'm still nervous about buying the wrong thing and it not working so haven't quite worked out my strategy yet, but will probably take the plunge with one or two brands in the newborn size which probably only fits for about 2 months, and then see what I want to buy later.  Happy hunting, and let me know if you find out anything more!

Hi

I posted a couple of months ago about this too and have ordered two samples from the UK.  My baby was premature and very small so she is too tiny to test out the samples just yet.  Once I have tried them, I will let you know how I get on.  They both have velcro fastenings and come with the cloth nappy insert.

Are any of you interested in doing a bulk order from the UK and splitting the cost of postage?

I've had 4 babies and all in cloth nappies. it is essential to buy the light cotton ones for this climate. You can find them easily in the "baby shops" in the housing board town centres. You'll also need a  plastic bin with a lid and Napisan. Buy LOTS of nappies, they're not expensive and you'll save $$$ of dollars on wasteful pampers. drying is a cinch in this climate.
