I'm going in for my 10 week appt. today. .... just wondering what my doctor should be performing in this appt.  I know she'll do an ultra-sound but what other types of tests?  Is the "triple" screening test performed on all expecting mom's at this stage?  other blood work?  key questions I should ask?     thanks!!!

At 10 weeks, you would probably only undergo the routine urine test.

Between 11 - 14 weeks, your doc might perform the nuchal translucency screening test.  This is done with the use of the ultrasound machine to measure the clear ("translucent") space in the tissue at the back of your developing baby's neck.  This gives you an assessment of Down syndrome risk.

Your doc may want to space out your appointments, so the above test may be performed later than earlier.

This is probably the time that you should discuss which tests you do & don't want if you haven't already. Nuchal transulency, triple screen, amnio are all optional.....

Just a note.  There are actually only two Drs in Singapore who are internationally accredited to do the NT scan, though these days lots of others seem to just do it anyway.

It is a very sensitive test so an unaccredited Doctor could give you a misleading result.  I would imagine that they would er on the side of caution so you could end up with a reccomendation for a more invasive test just because the Dr is confident enough in their reading.

It's worth checking with your Dr who they will get to do your NT scan.
