6yr old BOY Bday gift

[Absolutely clueless]

we just got invited to a friend's son's bday party. (their 1YO daughter & ours are playmates)

I've absolutely no idea what to get the boy! Is is still trains and cars? Or what brand/type should we look at? Anyone w boys of this age?  thanks!

Why not get a nice children's bible? It makes a great gift as the stories are fun to read, and they're spiritually fulfilling too (but the kids don't realize that, of course! :-P)

The above poster is always so irritating - recommending the children's bible.  So insensitive.  

For a 6 year old boy, I would recommend some science experimentation kits, which you can from Tangs.  Really cool stuff.

anyhow, OP I have almost 5 yr old son, and he loves big cars , racing ones specially with remotes.

I have heard that "Junior Monopoly" is alot of fun and kids really enjoy the cash flow !!$$!!

you can browse through swimming/ water sport stuff, like those really cool water guns or those big wicked shark floats or snorkeling gears, all available at ToyRus.

or may be something for the school, like a sporty school bag with stationary etc.

or go for a huge batman kite or a arrow board (i wonder what they really call that ?)

anyhow, if u make a trip to ToysRus, I am sure you will find something there which is age specific. if the boy is 6, i think there is no harm if you go for 7+ too.

Personally, I try to go for educational toys. Early Learning Centre has opened here, and I've bought presents from there (abroad); or there are shops on the first floor of Tanglin Mall that have nice things; or a good book (go for a popular one if you're not sure what they read)
If all else fails, gift vouchers.

Although I quite like ELC, I find that they are a bit limited once your child reaches 6 or so. Toys R Us is right next to ELC at Suntec City, so maybe go there and have a look.

I have girls, but I know that the science kits and cool swimming toys are usually popular with that aged boys - at least the ones that visit our place!

Also recently bought the travel version of Junior Monopoly.  Excellent and a great intro to Monopoly.  Also a godsend on a recent rainy holiday!

Thanks for all the suggestions! Never at all thought of them!   Just a few questions:

science experiments... hmmm.. I never had that before! (neither my husband!-which explains our non-aptitude to science!) Got to take a look at that! Can we get that at toys r us too?

Toys R Us has a limited range of science experiments.  The Science Centre has a much better range... and is also fun to visit on a hot day - even for a 1 year old!
