Did anybody adopt a child from an orphanage?
Most of the agencies just place children and babies from poor families.

most adopted children are from poor families.  if their families had enough money to keep then, they would.

there are a lot of conflicts that displace large populations including kids.  also natural disasters render a lot of people, including kids, homeless.

what you need to be concerned about is that there are unscrupulous people who pay poor family for kids, either promising they will look after them in the meantime by giving them employment, etc.  then they turn around and sell them through "adoption" agencies.

this is why many countries have very strict guidelines and legislations on adoptions.

Just don't use an agency!

Yes, there are lots of people in Singapore who have adopted from an orphanage.  I did when I was the - I adopted my child from Cambodia.

Contact "Touch Community Servies"  They have an axpat group who meet and talk about adoption on a regular basis.

Good luck.
