No pbs.
We went to Sri lanka for 3 days.
We have 3 children 7, 5 and 3 and we gave our neighbour a letter of consent to send to the hospital in case.

I believe it depends on how reasonable your children are and on your relationship with the maid. Neighbours must be friends you can rely on.

Great experience for all to do only on special ocasion only.

What about taking your maid with you?!

One of the best holidays we've had post kids is when we booked a villa and brought our helper with us. We got to spend time with our son during the day and party in the evening and get a lie in, in the morning!

The extra cost was not that significant given we had the best of both worlds.

I know some people are a bit snooty about taking their maids away and think it's a cop out but there are some great regional deals (Bali?) and you could stay either in a suite or book a villa.

I guess this partly depends on your relationship with your helper and some people just don't feel comfortable taking theirs on holiday but if you can overcome that, it really can mean a fab time all round...

Agree with "Alternatively".  We took our helper with us years ago to Lombok, with our two kids, then aged 7 months and 3 years.  It was partly a "gift" to her, as she'd never really had a holiday before.  She really enjoyed it as we stayed in a hotel and so no cooking or cleaning for her!  We spent all our days together.  In the evenings, we'd all go out and she and the kids would eat.  Then we'd go home and get the kids settled and me and my husband went out for a late dinner alone.  It was a fabuous holiday!  We all had a blast and I'd definitely recommend this over a weekend away from the kids...
