I'm a 3-mth old baby and am growing tired of lying flat on my back on my playmat and jungle gym - my bouncy chair is just getting a bit dull with the same old toys to bat around. What can I ask mummy & daddy to get me to spice up my life?

Really not sure if you can get them here, but how about the Bumbochair? It is made from a soft, lightweight, non-toxic material. It can be used on any flat surface, and is durable and easy to clean. Supports your baby in comfort in an upright sitting position, and there are no uncomfortable straps to worry about. Bumbo is designed so that the baby's own body weight helps to slightly narrow the gap above its legs, which gently keeps your baby in place. They are suitable from 4 mths if I remember correctly. I would recommend a door bouncer - not sure where you can buy them but both my kids have loved them from about 3 - 4 months old. They hang from a door lintel and allow baby to bounce gently on his/her legs while seeing an upright view of the world. Needs to be able to support his head first though. Another alternative is a Galt Playnest - which is great right up to when they're learning to sit. Props them a bit more upright, new colours around them - new view of the world! I think 3 months is a bit too young, but soon enough your baby might like to be upright in a play centre/exersaucer system. My baby loved hers and was reluctant to give it up once she had grown too big. There are very expensive models but also cheaper versions at most of the department stores and baby stores here. The playnest suggestion above is also a good one. My 15 month old still loves to sit in the nest to watch tv or 'read' a book.

Ask your mummy or daddy to flip you over more often and stick some toys within your grasp when you're on your playmat -you should hopefully be getting better head control that way and be sitting up in no time!

Thank you for all your ideas! Mummy has a sling and she's put me in it a few times but I think she's scared to use it, saying I look uncomfortable inside. I've heard mummy and daddy talking about a door bouncer and it sounds like great fun but they say the door frame looks a bit weak. I wouldn't want to chance it. I don't know if I like tummy time. My legs are good, in fact, and don't tell mummy and daddy, but I think I'll be walking in no time! I'm almost crawling! Well, the legs are there, just have to remember to stop digging my head into the bed and move my arms now and again. Now I like the sound of that Bumbo! Mummy and daddy say I've got a strong neck so have already ordered me a yellow one on the internet! Yippeee, I'll have a new toy soon! Thank you all! Mmm-wah!

I've just looked up the bumbo chair as I'd never heard of it -looks great. Got number two on the way and was preparing to dig out the bouncy chair but think this could be one of the few new purchases we make for him/her! Good tip -thanks.

I came across this when my son was older and less interested in sitting still, (his door bouncer was his love) but as mentioned not all door frames are suitable. So we never purchased one. It seems to get good reports from what I have read, but would be really interested if you could let us know what your babies think!

The bumbo sounds really good; I was tempted, when we were looking for a high chair, but we already had a bouncer, gym mat, swing and saucer. If your head is steady, I'd ask your parents to get you a saucer. We have an Even-Flo, which is a godsend, since we don't have a maid, and I can just pop my 7-month old in when I want to do something in the kitchen. It keeps him entertained for ages, because when he gets bored with one activity, he can go round to the next, and he's fairly 'independant' (not having discovered the joys of crawling, yet). Ours can be set to different heights, so he doesn't bear too much weight on his legs. Hope that helps. PS - saw one for sale on the buying / selling page.

Eagerly awaiting our Bumbo Chair. It arrives on Tuesday. The exersaucer is a good idea too but I'll have to save up a bit of pocket money first. Newby, did you buy a Bumbo?

Could you please enlighten my on what an "Even-flo" & an "Exersaucer is? I have a 4.5 month old and will be looking i am looking for new "toys" to keep her happy whilst i am cooking dinner ect. Bumbo Chair sounds good i would still need to amuse her is someway. I always thought though that a baby wasnt to be put into a sitting position until they can sit by themselves as you could damage their weak spine. i was told this about 10 years ago my a Physiotherapist.
