I'm 5.5 month pregnant with my first child.  Any recommendations for antenatal classes?

Would suggest that you look at ones led by a qualified mid-wife.

You are much more likely to get closer to the truth!

With the possible exception of Thomson don't go for the hospital run courses - they have a tendency to focus on what they want you to know & how they like things to be done. e.g. you should have an enema as soon as you go into labour, you shouldn't eat or drink during labour etc.

Try either Tanglin Mall or Tanglin Shopping Centre.

Nothing wrong with an enema if you haven't had a natural purge before you go into labour...

It's nice to be given the CHOICE of having an enema or not....and not just be told that it's hospital policy....which is what you'll find in many hospitals.

I thought enimas were considered an outdated practice along with shaving the pubic area??? do they still do both here? that is disconcerting
from my research they are both completely unneccessary

These practices haven't been in use in "enlightened" midwife-led countries for 20+ years - completely unnecessary.

For info:  an enema will make you more likely to "leak" all through your labour - much easier to just pass rabbit nuggets or a log!  Much better for those who have o clear up after you as well.

Sorry if its TMI, but one of those subjects noone tells you beforehand!

A definite vote for Tanglin Shopping centre (4th floor) - TM is meant to be very good as well.

ItalianBunny - yes they are outdated and have no benefit to the mother at all - BUT not every doctor keeps up to date on latest research.....but it's great that you have, it'll go a long way to having a better birth experience.

When is a good time to start antinatal classes? Also, any opinions on Glen Eagles Hospital?  Do they still do the outdated prectices like enema's shaving etc?

Thanks.

Expecting Too - it depends on your Doctor.....so it's important to spend time finding the right Doctor for you.  Most women spend more time finding a good travel agent.....
