Our maid has been with us for nearly a year - she is very pleasant but keeps herself to herself (which is fine)  It is her birthday on Tuesday and obviously we will give her a present - but her friends cannot get time off so she doesn't want to go out and although I would be happy to take her out for a meal I don't think she would really enjoy that.  Would like her not too work - but with no friends around what would be a nice thing for her to do?  I was thinking of something with the children - any ideas?

Our helper was really out going and intergraded well with the family so not too sure how helpful this will be, but, we did a family lunch at Raffles. She had a couple of Slings and was very happy for the rest of the day (and the total experience was one up on her friends)

It's so nice to make it a special day especially if they are limited to those they can share and celebrate with.

We usually give our maid the nearest Saturday off.

what about just a bonus and maybe sending her off to get her nails done.  or a movie - that she can do on her own.

Thank you for your help ... its tomorrow so I'd better make a decision ... still unsure as I feel we should take her out for a meal but I think she would prefer to have the money and do something with her friends at the weekend?  Doesn't seem so friendly though???

Why don't you ask her what she would prefer...tell her what you would like to do for her, and she will tell you what she thinks...the chances are she would like the money, but maybe throw in a little treat or get a voucher to do something.

My maid is very happy to receive a bonus, we make the morning breakfast special with a cake and gifts for the children.

A couple of times I have taken her for lunch with the kids.

I give her the nearest saturday afternoon off - but mostly they are happy to celebrate on the Sunday with their friends.

it really is about the money with the maids. Here to work and any extra money is a bonus!!

We gave ours a camera and she's a non stop picture taker. She was part of our family and sadly we moved and couldn't take her. We all have great memories.

We also helped her out with the development of film...that can be costly.
