To be honest, our son just turned 4 last week, and I can honestly say that was the first time he was at all interested in his birthday. His 3rd one was fun, and you could see that he was just starting to grasp the concept that all this fuss was about him.

As for 1st and 2nd birthdays, my belief is that its more about fun for the parents. A child turning 1 has no idea what is going on and the celebration is special for you, for the obvious reasons.

Thats not to say you musn't make an effort, just realise that its for your benefit.

So, if you are from an large family or with a wide circle of friends etc, and there are going to be lots of kids of varying ages about, look up details I gave someone on foods you can make yourself for the party. The subject was simply "party" and it was posted recently.

If the majority of people attending are going to be couples with kids the same age, cater more towards the adults, as the majority of 1 year olds will still have food brought by their parents.

We had a Nemo themed cake made for our son's 4th and it was a work of art. I did not want to cut it and had to be forcibly stopped by my wife after photographing it more than the party.

p.s. I just realised something you will be painfully aware of. Having his birthday on the 26th December will mean you are going to have many years of wracking your brain to come up with ways of making his birthday special and not just "the day after Christmas".

People are generally hungover , tired and partied out on Boxing Day, so make sure you have confirmations on who is coming before you go to a huge effort.

Actually, Im sure that your Christmas Day last year is a tale all of its own, so Merry Christmas to you in advance, and in truth, you should make this 1st birthday about you, considering the fact that I would guess that your last one was unconventional, to say the least.

Sit on the couch with the little one, look maternal, and have your family pamper you. Theres a theme!

u can buy party favors in carrefour or the concourse on beach road. had a party for my bub n hired a magician. kids were of mixed ages. oldest 10, youngest 4 but they all had loads of fun. kids don't eat much so no need for too much food except for parents. However, the kids like candy n loot bags so prepare those instead. have a good one!

Thank you so much "let me know".  i think you're right.. celebrating my son's birthday is about ME having fun on that day, and that's the reason why I am so excited.....i just can't help it... it's my son's big1.. he may not realized it yet.. but for me... it means 1 year of being a mother...1 year of sleepless nights... and a year of success...  and yes, you are right again... for others, 26th dec is "just a day after christmas"... i know the feeling of that coz i was born 23rd dec.. "just a day before the most celebrated Christmas Eve"... anyway, i'll keep in mind the other ppoints that you've mentioned.  thanks again..
and mama mia, .. thanks, i've tried going to carrfourre but the saleslady told me that it's out of stock... my next stop this weekend will be the concourse
