Last week I had a "signal" a lot of blood, so we went to the hospital, at 5:00am. but no contractions, I was back home at 2:00pm.

The doctor told us I was so early just 1 cm. dilatation, but "in a few days"

I feel so ancious, my in laws are here now and they'll go next week and this baby don't want to came out.

Hi there, I'm 38 weeks and right there with you. As hard as it is to wait though, remember that at 37 weeks your pregnancy is only just considered full term. Normal pregnancy can last anything up to 42 weeks and even beyond without it necessarily being a cause for concern. The bleeding you experienced "could" be a sign that something is going to happen soon, but at the same time, it might not.

How important is it that your in laws be here for the baby's birth ? If it is really and truly important to you, can they possibly extend their stay ?

In my experience it can actually be quite stressful having relatives around at the time of a birth - maybe your body/baby actually prefer to wait until they have gone and you have more privacy. On the other hand if you have a good relationship with them you may value their support.

Either way, your baby will let you know when he/she is ready to come out. No pregnancy ever lasts forever !

Hi - if you had a 'show' (as we call it where I come from!), it might not be the full thing just yet, but possibly in a few days you'll get another one.  I've just been through this with my sister and she had a show and had contractions for days before the real thing happened.  The day before she had the baby she had another show (much larger and more mucusy, if you'll excuse the expression!), so it looked like the first one was just a small amount of it coming away.

With the first show, she went to the hospital, because the contractions were quite strong, and when they sent her home, she was about 5cm dilated, but still the baby wasn't coming and it was another 2 or 3 days before the second show and then the actual birth.

In my personal experience, things don't start to really happen until the contractions start and become so strong that you feel the need to go into hospital (for the pain relief more than anything!).

Sorry to hear that your in-laws might miss it all, but I suppose if they do, it'll encourage them to come out and see you again in a few months when the baby is safely here.

Good luck with it

baby boom - out of interest did she have a girl? Everyone I know who has had contractions for a few days b4 baby really came had a girl. I myself had 3 weeks of strong contraction on and off until she was born. And no, they weren't Braxton Hicks, I went into hospital finally and was 5cm dilated. Midwife said thet were good strong contractions and it wouldn't be long. Then they stopped yet again, and 2 days later they broke my waters as I was 10 days overdue.

Yes she did have a girl!  She had a labour which went on for days the first time too, and another girl!  Maybe there's something in it.
