nationality of newborn baby

We are here on EP and expect a baby. Does it become a Singapore resident by being borne here or do I have to apply for a DP or LTSV?  

I know I should ask any Ministry of bla bla in Singapore and I did. But as in other cases you never get any response.

Being born here is not a right to citizenship.  For both my children we applied for Canadian citizenship, had to wait for the passport and citizenship to be processed (passport was fast, citizenship was slow!).  In the meantime, you go down to Immigration and ask for a LTSVP for the baby.  Before 9/11, I only had to get a 6 month, but do yourself a favour and ask for a one year one.... just because citizenship seems to take longer to process now

just a word of warning

if you want to apply for a ltsv for your child, you have to take all of your documentation down to immigration, including:
marriage cert
birth certs
letter from your employer.

I would advise getting your company to apply for a dependents pass for your child.  it's easy, and your company will handle it for you.  Saves you all the endless hassle with the immigration officers.

As usual after birth, the hispital will give you a birth certificate.

With the birth certificate you present yourself and the baby at your embassy and apply for a passport. The difficult part here is to make a passport picture of your baby with his/her eyes open.

With passport, birth certificate and employers letter you go to SIR and apply for DP.

This should be given to you without any problems.

Contact your embassy/consulate.
They should be able to help you out.

Imagine is almost correct..
At the hospital they will give you a notice of birth which you then have 2 weeks to take to SIR to get a Singaporean Birth Cert,  This does not give you any residency rights.
Then you take this to your embassy to get your home country Birth Cert..
Then you return to SIR for your LTSV.  
Both times you visit SIR you will need originals and copies of your passport, FIN card, parents birth certs and marriage cert.

My daughter was born here last march, she was given a singaporean birth certificate by the hosptiatal, which stated that although she was born here she was not a citizen.

we took that and our marriage certifcate+ passports to the british embassy and got a british birth certificate and passport for my daughter.

As for the passport photos we had some one come round the hospital(gleneagles) offer to take pictures, we got 8 passports oics, a full size pic and some birth annoucement and thank you cards with her name on them.

It was all quite simple really.

i dont know about te dependants pass part because my husbands work dealt with that for us.

If one of you is a singpore PR/ citizen and one is a foreigner then you get a notification of birth and you get your birth cert at the SIR building

If both of you are foreigners, you can get your cert then and there at the hospital.

don't know what you have to do if both of you are singapore PRs or Citz

By the way, I'm still waiting for the S'pore Government's "HOT"-Line to come back to me in this matter.

when you get the actual birth certificate, CHECK details properly. They put an incorrect name for my husband on daughters certificate. We left Sing soon after so I didn't do anything about having it amended. We also organised citizenship certs. and passports straight away, British & Australian. I can't believe no one picked it up, but I just know it will cause a problem for her one day.
Company also arranged dependants pass.

Also meant to say.....
Now living in Australia, I overheard daughter saying she was Singaporean because she was born in Singapore. I keep saying you are not, she says yes I am. I have decided that if she ever becomes obnoxious as a teenager, if she still wants to be a Singaporean, I can threaten to send her back to do national service!  I know that girls don't do it, but she doesn't, so it's a good trick to keep up your sleeve.
