Dear all,

we are planning to raise our daughter (3m) triligual, since mom and dad are different nationalities and Engl. is our family language.

We would like to open a discussion here if anyone has faced same challenges...

Thanks.

We have a son who is 15 months and we do the same as you without any problem (we both speak a different language and speak to eachother in english). We have a rule though; one parent speaks one language to him. The english he pick up when me and my husband talk to eachother and at school (we put him in pre school early for that reason, to learn the english). And it works great for us. He understands all three languages well (i.e. he'll point out the same thing when we ask him in different languages to do so).
Your daughter probably will start to talk a little bit later since she has three different language centres to develop (an expert told me).

My wife and I have different mother tongues (neither is english).

We tried to bring up our daughter as trilingual - but so far our daughter is fluently bilingual - not tri. But its early days yet - she's just 2 and a half.

My wife and I speak to each other in English, which our daughter has picked up.

OShe has also picked up my wife's mother tongue. But not mine. The reason being, that compared to my wife, I hardly get to spend time at home with the kid.

Cheers....Newkid
