Yep, disposables it is (unless you want to wash your own?)

get a decent washing machine, buy some napisan (fair price or cold storage), and just soak them in that and then bung them in the wash.  You should get at least 20 nappies in one wash and might only have to do a wash every other day.  They'll dry quickly out here too.

Doesn't exist up here as most people have maids who do the washing - hence no market for the service.

I used cloth nappies for the first year almost exclusively and I don't have live in help - so it is possible!  Buy a plastic bucket/box with a sealable lid and store this outside or in a spare bathroom if you have one.  I had about 16 nappies and 4 or 5 of the outer 'wraps' and this was enough to do a wash every other day.  I also used disposable liners after weaning which are flushable - a bit like gauze.  I was advised not to use Napisan on my brand as this reduces the absorbancy, just did a hot wash and this was fine.

Good luck.

Me too - I think this would be a great idea and would definitely prefer this to disposables. Cloth nappies sound great but I found the reality of having to wash and dry them a drag (and even with a maid at home to help this still applies, it's hard enough for her to keep up with all the washing and ironing for a busy family of four as it is). So ... any entrepreneurs out there fancy giving it a go??? All you'd need is a stack of cloth nappies, a means of collecting and delivering them, and a contract with a laundry. I am sure someone out there could make a business out of this.

And talking of businesses what happened to that idea being bandied around recently for a kid-friendly cafe with play area? I thought that sounded fab !

Then at least you know what detergent you're using.  I changed detergent and no more diaper rash.  Also there are so many cute diapers to choose from now, that prefolds are at the bottom of my diaper stash.  I really don't think it's viable where maids are so abundant.  Can't believe a maid wouldn't have time anyway.  There's nothing to it just throw them in the machine and the dryer.  Maybe your maid just doesn't like washing dirty diapers! I have no maid and cloth diapered for a year and on holiday no problem.
