My son in finishing his P6 at our homecountry and he is coming to Spore to continue for his Sec 1.

supposed to be a really good school.  If i'm not mistaken, it offers the IB.

Trouble is, as it's so popular your son might have a problem getting in..

It's a very good school with rich history. Founded in the 19th century by Methodist mission.

Since 19th century, wealthy Chinese businessmen and Europeans residing here sent their sons there to be educated. That's how it gets a reputation of being a rich man's school. Its alumni also consists of a large number of our Ministers.

Thanks for all your reply guys,

Would they consider my son if we tell them that we are  Christians and are looking for a Christian school for our son???

Is there any "trick" how to build connection with somebody inside the school or methodist church?

Not sure about admission of foreign students. But for locals, every year hundreds of disappointed Methodist (not just Protestants) parents have to be turned away as places for premier schools like ACS get filled up pretty fast. Hence they admit only the best. For its primary school section, the other alternative is if your father is an alumni of the school (they do ask for documentary proof). Even if you are a member of their school PTA, or volunteer in the school or member of the Methodist Church, they do not assure you a place. It merely give you priority over others who do not have such priviledges.

I'm not sure tricking someone to get into  a school is the right way to go about it.

Thanks again guys,

Yes 4-I, I also agree with you.

What i meant about "trick" to build connection with insider is, to get detail informations in how to make efforts, to make my son able to enroll to ACS.

MOE website says that my son will have to sit for an exam if he wants to go to 30 best Secondary Schools, then after getting the result he can try to enroll to these 30 Schools.

Being a Christian, we try to put our son into Christian school and we would make the best efforts for it and leave the rest to God.

Cheers

You can visit this link http://www1.moe.edu.sg/press/2003/pr20030925.htm
for MOE's ranking of the top 50 performing schools and colleges in Singapore in 2002.

Besides wanting a Christian school, are there any pre-requisites you are looking for?

There are other good Christian schools but they are not in the same league as ACS (I). But they still place emphasis in the development of a child.

- Anglo Chinese School (Barker) - Methodist
- St Andrew's Secondary - Anglican
- St Gabriel's - Catholic
- Fairfield Methodist
- St Joseph's Institution - Catholic

If your son plays rugby, then you should push this point. ACS accept students who are particularly talented in rugby in an effort to keep their status as national rugby champions. This could be a way in for you. If not, then still push the Christian idea, as a caucasian I'd say the school will look favourably on your application so they can continue to develop a cultural mix of students.

I wouldn't say that this as a school for caucasian boys.  There are foreign scholars and Eurasian boys.

Let's cut the crap folks. Original poster, if you meant - does making a donation open doors? The answer is yes, and no one can tell me otherwise.

I've got lots of friends who are parents who've done it.

The other poster has said it! Hinted that it is known to be a rich man's sons school. My boss whose son is in the primary school told me in addition to the numerous fund raisings, there are other stuff that parents/students have to pay for.

As for making a donation, lets just say you can forget about any amount in the 4-figure area.

Of course, regardless of what I mentioned in the earlier post, I guess an ACS education is still worth it.

On donation - no harm making an offer but I guess if their classes are really full, they will not make any exception as their quality of education will be compromised.

That is also why every year hundreds of disappointed parents are turned away due to its popularity.
