Hi everyone,
I am relocating to SG in a couple of months and will give birth to first child two months after that. I have searched related topics on this site and found a lot of info. But since I don't have much time to search for hospitals and doctors once we arrive there, can you suggest me good doctor and hospital names? The price is not an issue at all since my insurance company is paying all the bills. I will have a c-section on delivery and planning to stay in a private room. And one last question, am I too late to book a place if I am 6 - 7 months pregnant???

Dear Nelly

There are really three ways that most expats go:

Mt Elizabeth Hospital with Dr Ann Hagerty or Dr Yeoh;

Gleneagles with Dr Shirin Jacobs; or

Thompson Medical Centre with Dr TC Chang or Paul Tseng.

Mt E is the most glamorous and similar to a private Australian or English Hospital.  It is a general hospital with a large maternity ward.

Thompson has the best reputation for nursing staff, excellent lactation and parent craft teachers and is a specialist Maternity & pediatric hospital.

Gleneagles gets mixed reviews and the last three people I know who delivered there checked out early.

6-7 Months is not too late to book in to a hospital here (though you'd be stuffed if you tried that in Australia) so you should be ok.

You'll probably want to meet a couple of the Dr's once you arrive, and then choose your hospital based on where they deliver.

Good luck.

Go to Thomson Medical Centre... They have good and very capable O & G doctors, and they have a relatively new building, unlike Mt E. My sisters and I were all born in TMC!

Thanks Friend and TMC, I will definitely listen to your advice. Looks like there is not much to worry in SG.

Cheers,
Nelly

Dear Nelly

If you tell us the qualities you're looking for in a Obstetrician we could probably give you some suggestions.

Good luck

Thanks Friend,

You know how important to have an Obstetrician you can trust. I want to have an elective c-section, so he/she should be open for such request. And of course the same Obstetrician  should do the operation. I know some doctors in Australia has a good reputation on c-sections or natural births, so why not choosing someone recommended by many people. As I said earlier, we don't have any problem with the bills so I want to be on the safe side and get maximum caution possible. I am having such an easy pregnancy so far and don't expect too much problems with the delivery and baby's health either, but until it happens, you never know. If nurses can take care of the baby to let me sleep during the day or night in the hospital that would be great too. I don't know what else is important and needs to be considered though.

Went to Gleneagles recently and gave birth by caesarean with my second child - very nice experience - I would have happily stayed as it felt more like a hotel than a hospital.  The nursing staff were just fantastic and 5 months later everything feels much more pleasant than following my first delivery (elsewhere).

Nelly

I had an elective c-section at TMC and would give the experience 10/10.
