Humm, well, I suppose Bush isn't the stereotypical holy-roller type, but the whole "god saved me from demon rum" thing sort of goes down wrong with me.

Rub: its good to see you acknowledge your point #2 and #3 above,  in return I'll grant you that there have been some shockingly aggressive politicians in the US over the past 60 years who have abused public goodwill in order to wage some shockingly aggressive wars before finally being reigned in.  (Bush included -- btw, you should see his latest approval ratings).

Anyway, the real question is how best to constrain abuse of power as we try to build a better world.  A more robust UN is a start, but ignoring the role played by fundamentalist religious ideology in years to com would also be a mistake.  I don't think these are harmless guys with firecrackers.

Suicide in the name of religion is becoming contagious. Christian fundamentalists from North Amercia are strapping themselves with a plane ticket  to  Iraq, to spread Christianity, knowing fully well that chances of dying at the hands of Muslim terrorists are extremely high. But they yet do that becuase they can become a martyr and get a quick run to Heaven. Ticket to heaven is becoming too easy for both Christian and Muslim fundamentalists, and I wonder .............

"...before finally being reigned in..."

you mean "...before finally the us-sponsored dictators settled in and continued the tortures and killings with their own us-trained troops."?

Anyway, that's not the question...

P.S. You do have a very rosy view of us foreign policy. I hope one day you will wake up to reality.
