Wow! Didn't we just get a little bit sidetracked!

Jumping right back to the original question: "Are you all feeling as fearful, bewildered and helpless as I am?"

It seems we are, doesn't it?

Harkening back to the post about the US installing the Shah to recover oil assets, one of the scariest things to pop up recently about 9/11 is the French book "Bin Laden, la Verité Interdite".... Essentially some Intelligence insiders have revealed that the Bush Administration were in talks with the Taliban *before* 9/11 concerning a certain oil pipeline that was to cross Taliban territory. According to the reports, the Taliban were told "you will accept a carpet of gold, or a carpet of bombs."

And again, this was *before* 9/11...

Anyone who is interested to read more can search google for "Carpet Of Bombs"...

[/me thinks the world is sometimes a very dark place]

So, the US orchestrated the 9/11 attacks to get the pipeline? You're in fine company. Cannabisnews, astrologyforthepeople.com, islamonline, the Jordan Times and Socialist Worker are also intrigued by the book.

Also apparently interested were CNN and Richard Butler, the famously outspoken former UN weapons inspector in Iraq.

You had to get all the way down to page 3 on google for that one.

To be honest, as long as they're not suggesting a link to 9/11, I don't see the big deal in negotiations with the Taliban. The world needs oil and it's better if most of the pipelines don't run through Russia. It's unseemly but it's pragmatic. Such pragmatism was rightly de-prioritized after the terrorist attacks.

Apparently, the same book claims the Saudis largely financed Al-Qaeda. And of course we all still love to do business with the Saudis. If Bush is guilty of being a hypocrite, well, so is the entire Western world with the exception of perhaps Norway.
