I was in Jakarta last week and glanced at CNN for a while.  They had one of those endless panel discussion programs – discussing the world as true experts, they of course understood every dynamic  because they were enlightened intellectuals and journalists. Anyway one of the guys was talking of actively of confronting North Korea after Iraq – the logic being that it is better to lose Seoul than San Francisco so do it now and do it properly.

I don't know if even the Bush regime is mad enough to follow through on such a approach but I was nevertheless thinking of the best way to engage this strategy.

Direct several B2 Stealth Bombers and a dozen F117’s into North Korean Airspace – making sure each of them is loaded with low yield nuclear and/or neutron weapons – the attack will have to be swift and daring and must disregard potential casualties.  The main thrust of the attack would have to be directed close to the DMZ, and in that lays America’s greatest potential strength.

For 5 decades the world has awaited a reoccurrence of North Korea’s invasion of the South.  It was projected that the North would push through quickly but later be repelled by an American offensive.  The current US troop contingent would die rather quickly in the event of a North Korean attack (possibly within the first hour) however if the US took the initiative the entire conflict would take on a different nature.

The flight path and launch sequence would have to take out the supreme command and most of the North’s military facilities in quick succession.  Given the closeness of the DMZ to Seoul, the use of low yield neutron weapons would be more desirable – possibly use up 6 weapons in the 5kt range – ensuring that the weapons could penetrate deep into their bunker systems.  There would be collateral damage in Seoul however it would be less than in the event of a North led invasion.  Once the initial attack run was completed near the DMZ – whatever is left of the North’s leadership would look around the North to see most of their bases literally obliterated.  A significant number of troops would have been exposed to sufficient levels of radiation to ensure a relatively quick though painful death.

By morning – cruise missiles could mop up all remaining unaccounted for military and political establishments.  The radiation would abate in a matter of weeks if the right weapons are chosen – so over damage would be minimal.  The North could be expected to lose upwards of 3 to 4 million – the South could then move in and colonise retaining those who are useful.  San Francisco would be very safe.  It would also give us a better staging base to engage China in the next ten years.  Sure they are friends now but just wait until the Arabs don't hate us anymore – we are going to need a new country to hate.

Wow J27, you're becoming ever the optimist these days - you think the Arabs are going to stop hating us?  And within 10 years?  Things are looking up...

Thought that would make you smile

Actually US expectations were that there would be at least 7 McDonalds stores in Afghanistan already –this short coming has apparently caused consternation in both the Pentagon and the Whitehouse.  Of course by the time the people in Iraq learn of our fabulous way of life, where nobody goes hungry and no one is imprisoned without trial – where burger franchises fight to get into our schools – and where the latest gadgets are updated hourly in order to properly assuage any feeling of futility.  Yes Sir the Arabs will fall into line – how could they not?  And when the Iraqi’s do – the Saudi’s will follow, then the Yemenis, and then Syrians and then the entire peninsular will fall into line.  10 years – surely 10 days is all it will take.
