The   recent admission by Pakistani scientists that they were at the center of a global proliferation  network is being taken way too lightly by world opinion. The prevailing view if that Pakistan should be let of because it is tactically convenient. Indeed, on the same day that these revelations were made, Bush passed through a budget that included US$300mn in military aid to the country. However, let us remember all the "tactically convenient" allies of the past for the moment - Saddam Hussain, Osama bn Laden to name a few. Now the "free world" is happily subsidizing yet another military dictator - with a dubious record - and a country that is the pivot in the Axis of Evil.

I can't stand Bush. But I have to agree that it will be easier to control and change Pakistan as an ally than an enemy.

The current administration of Pakistan is secular, and has some smart people in it: smart people who want investment, not just handouts.

I'm really not sure about the humanitarian situation, but the US needs Pakistan as a base for stomping Taleban remnants right now... I think Pakistan has a good chance of reform, if they manage to get the mullahs under control.

So, Dr Khan printed even a glossy brochure to hawk his toys - but everyone else was so busy elsewhere that they knew nothing about it!

I can believe it!
