When you buy a chicken in a store or order one in a restaurant do you think about what the chicken ate during its life? I for one don’t but after reading the attached article perhaps we all should.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2003/05/21/nchick21.xml&sSheet=/news/2003/05/21/ixhome.html It seems the Dutch are deliberately feeding and injecting chickens with proteins from pig and cow remnants to bulk them up and are then exporting them to other countries in a manner which prevents the Inspectors from finding out this has been done. These are the same seven Dutch producers who were caught pumping up the weight of chickens by up to a third of the weight with water and chemicals.
Health wise we know feeding animal protein to other animals can cause serious illness within the animals that can then jump to humans. We all remember Mad Cow Disease which was caused by feeding chicken to cows and which passed on to humans killing several people. SARS is believed to have jumped from chickens or pigs to humans.
In terms of Religion those for whom pork is banned and who buy chicken are now seriously at risk of being sold a product reared on or injected with waste parts of the very animal their religion prevents them from consuming.
I sincerely hope the Panorama programme on this, which is due to air in the UK tomorrow, names the Companies concerned. I also hope the Dutch Government is responsible enough to shut the Companies down for fraud.
Personally I am sick and tired of greedy food producers literally contaminating the food we buy without telling us what they have done. Their sole interest seems to be profit even if it is at the expense of our health and that of our children. How do you feel about the adulteration of our food?
