well, you said you gave the hospital 6 bucks - so I figured 12 bucks would get you home again. all that travelling you do - I wanna see the bar you keep at home... nosy - tequila with worms? maybe you are thinking of mezcal? but hey, that'll do just fine!

I have to agree with seditiousdeviant that want_to_ believe should not have stopped at just getting the patient into a cab and give the cab fare; he would have done more wonders if he had accompanied the patient to the hospital. After all he is staying very near to the hospital too. It would have meant more inconvenience, but it would been "giving" more of himself to a fellow human being; that to me is more difficult than to part with a few dollars. That is not to take away his good intentions. Many would not have bothered.

ya - you know most people perform their acts of kindness in anonymity - the true sense of altruism (if it exists). So why is WTB proclaiming his goodness here? what is he trying to whitewash? I bet he figured it was worth his 6 bucks just to get the undesirable element away from his place of residence. why did he not go back down to help the poor fellow human being for whom he was so concerned after he saw him kicked out of the cab 200 meters down the road? why did he not do anything when after 40 minutes no ambulance had as yet arrived? this is so typical - just like the american corporate imperio-fascists he defends. they put out some story made to make themselves sound all so goody-goody and caring, when the real reason is something entirely different and less than benevolent. and here you all are clapping him on the back. now, it happens exactly like I expected. Not only that the taxidriver took the money from the stupid expat and kicked the poor guy out ... now even I'm a heartless a*** for not helping him more. I put this story on the bord because I was pissed by what I get when I try to help others ...a kick In the ass. And You'r answer , Deviant , only confirms this, becaus now you put it like I'm the bad guy here because I dont brought him to the hospital myself. Sad but true. After You'r answer, I know what I better do next time .... nothing , like anyone else.

ya, that's right. do nothing, and the world will be a better place. because you were not doing nothing, you were looking out for your own selfish interests. you did not give a s**t about that poor guy, you cared only about assuaging your own bad conscience, and getting that unsightly creature away from the entrance to your apartment block. maybe if you did nothing, someone who really cared would have taken care of the problem. you should be president. I think I'll start calling you George. or W. or pardner.

hounestly, i can not really understand where your impression came from. First, as i said , this was a guy in hospital emergency cloth , carrying infusion bottles with him ... not some scary creature...second , it was in front of the next appartment block ( why do i answer to this at all) and third ...i really like people who criticize other for helping and how they help but don't do anything themself at all . Think I remeber that you are from Canada , or. Just walk the streets of toronto and see how helpful people are in your country ...havent seen so much homeless peolple on the street ,begging for food ,in any other western country. And ...for what I should have a bad conscience ? Had never a reason for this in my whole life [This message has been edited by want_to_believe (edited 11-03-2002).]

as far as toronto is concerned - that long since not been a part of canada. but you are right - of course, as always. it's funny to push your buttons. haha! BTW - I was in vancouver last summer - first time in canada for 6 years. could not believe the homelessness I saw downtown. thought at first they were shooting a movie or something - looked like mad max 4, or some alien kind of movie. do you forgive me now? do I get some duty free tequila?

I agree with Antoine; do not be discouraged by the strong comments by others. Sure, it would have been great if want_to_believe had personally seen the chap to the hospital. But let us ask ourselves how many of us would have even bothered to notice and done what he had done? As to whether it was to assuage his conscience; so what? Something good did happen. And we should take his words at face value when he said he had no other motive other than to help a fellow human being.
