Read the topic as Al-Jazeera reporters not allowed entry to NYSE

The so-called gaurdians of democracy and freedom of press have banned Al-Jazeera reporters from entering the NYSE and hacked its website.

Reuters Article

"Al-Jazeera has an editorial line and a way of presenting news that appeals to the Arab public. They watch it and they magnify the minor successes of the (Iraqi) regime. They tend to portray our efforts in a negative light," Powell said in an interview with National Public Radio, broadcast on Wednesday.

Gee, maybe it has something to do with the Iraqis airing pictures of our POW's they executed! Jack ASS!

Al-Jazeera, which angered Washington by showing footage of dead and captured American soldiers, voiced concern after two of its reporters were banned from the New York Stock Exchange and its Web sites were hacked

Hey Musp

Try to look at it as a boycott rather than a ban. That sword can but both ways right?

I'm not sure, but do you suppose there has been any censorship in Iraq?

I assume you are equally outraged about that too but were too busy to mention it?

True Manc Man, but the US are supposed to be the leaders of the "Free World".

MM

Iraqis are supposed to be savage, uncivilised brutes ruled by a barbaric regime which needs to be changed to make way for democracy, freedom and all the other nice things that the US has promised.

Censorship in Iraq shouldn't surprise anyone but when it comes from the apostles of democracy and the country which errects a statue of liberty to dispel any doubts about its values, its a bit dissapointing - isn't it?

Makes me smile when you guys refuse to admit the US system of government is any way superior to any other regime anywhere in the world and yet  continue to hold it to much higher standards and express outrage when they aren't met. That's hypocritical.

Musp, I'll do you a deal:

If, as you say, you will confirm that active Iraqi Baath Party Members  are, as you yourself write ,

"savage, uncivilised brutes ruled by a barbaric regime which needs to be changed to make way for democracy, freedom"

Then I will certainly admit it is a little disappointing to hear that Al Jazeer ahas been banned from the US.

OK?

Reality Check - Al Jazeera is not banned in the USA.  You can subscribe to it on cable, if your cable provider carries it.  Some do, some don't.  Commercially, it's a loser, so there shouldn't be much surprise that cable providers, which are businesses, don't always carry it.

Hackers hit all kind of sites, pro-war and anti-war, anti-semitic and militant zionist, microsoft and militant Mac user.  This does not constitute being "banned".

Two reporters were not allowed into the NYSE - that is the news.  The NYSE chooses who they let in, it's not a government body or public park, I couldn't just walk in either.

Now, let's compare to Iraq shall we...

Well put T2K.

MM...funny how he doesn't even address what the contents of the "news" they were showing as I mentioned to him above. I think it might have a bit to do with not wanting the wives, mothers & children not wanting to see a close up of their loved ones with a bullet in his head. Did that even cross your mind?!?!?

T2K

Didn't actually believe Al Jazeera had been banned, that would see the Government in court faster than you could say "First Amendment".

Try broadcasting prohibited material in Iraq, that would see you in a grave faster than you could say "Don't shoot".

Disclaimer:

I do not mean to imply a judgement  regarding the relative desirability of these two approaches to free speech since that would, of course, make me an imperialist pig.

I think the reason why somebody mentioned is because US is one of the vocal supporter of Freedom of the press.
Iraq never said that their press are free, so they never eat their own words if they ban anything. But US support for free press is not reflected when Al-Jazeera got banned in the US.

Who says that the NYSE is supposed to be the "guardians of freedom and democracy"? The purpose of the NYSE is to make people rich and to facilitate the US/world's economies at growth.

This whole thread is pointless.

It took me less than a minute to find their site and log on to it. There are no pictures of dead troops on the site I am pleased to say; however there are some horrendous ones of children killed in the conflict.

Whilst those pictures might serve as a wake up call to some of the reality of dropping bombs on cities; I feel we are better off not agreeing to them being shown.

Once again, Al Jazeera is not banned in the US.  Not many people want to watch it, though, thus it is hard to find.  Third time, Al Jazeera is NOT BANNED in the US.
