just got this mail from a friend.
The legacy of Ronald Reagan:
1) He tripled the national debt
2) He supported apartheid
3) He backed Saddam Hussein
4) He crushed workers rights
5) Star Wars turned out to be a very expensive fantasy
6) He backed death squads throughout Central America
7) He looked the other way when Salvadorean allies  raped American nuns
Cool He confused old movies with foreign policy
9) He traded arms for hostages and diverted money to drug running death squads!

nastiexpat - that is not necessary, after all if when a President dies you surely forget all about;

Tripling the national debt
Supporting apartheid
Backing Saddam Hussein
Crushing workers rights
Wasting billions on science fiction defense police
Backing death squads throughout Central America
Not giving two tosses when Salvadorean allies raped American nuns
Confusing old movies with foreign policy
Trading arms for hostages and diverted money to drug running death squads!

I wish you guys could be here in the states seeing the crowds paying their respects to this great man.  All ages, all ethnic groups, caucasians, Asian, Black, Russian emigrants etc really touching.  Crowds went to see his casket by the thousands in Simi Valley greatly outstripping the numbers originally expected.  In the capital crowds have been going to the rotunda all night already at over 100,000.
The media of course doesn't understand the countries overwelming expression of love and thanks to him and for him but then it is our left leaning media we're talking about.  The Pew foundation recently published a report concerning our media and how over 50% of them are self described liberals.  Reagan skunked the left for years and even in death his timing was impeccable.

I am ambivalent with regard to Reagan as I felt he Presided in a way he truly believed in; but was frequently misled by those who advised and reported to him. Oliver North and the Contras is but one example.

Yesterday morning I watched the short service and the eulogy given at Reagan’s lying in state. It was a classic example of what makes the USA great as a people, and just how Patriotic they are. I do not mind admitting listening to the Singing Sergeants from the United States Air Force sing the American National Anthem moved me.

For me it was a timely reminder that no matter how much some of us may argue regarding US Politicians and their actions, we should never judge the American people by our own political opinions. Yesterday morning it did not matter if you revered or reviled the man for the real issue to my mind was the show of patriotism from the people. Not so much the politicians in the invited audience as the everyday American Men, Women and Children who queued for hours to walk past the coffin and pay their respects.
