And now for something completely different. In the interests of changing the subject, let's try posting things we *like* about America... OK, OK. I'll go first with my 10 faves: (1) The Constitution (2) MTV (3) Spring Break (4) America is living proof that a bunch of people who don't have squat in common really can learn to largely just settle down and get along. (5) The Blue Ridge Parkway at 110mph in a Rental Mustang (6) America invented the Internet! (7) Separation of Church and State ( New York, which is of course, the Capital of the World! (9) The Indianapolis 500 (10) The 2nd Amendment.

Coast-to-coast road trips, drifting from town to town in a rusty old car under sunny open skies. The radio stations fade in and out as new ones come in. Thoroughly friendly small talk with complete strangers over greasy midwest liver and onions. There's no life like it. [This message has been edited by cactus (edited 24-09-2002).]

Sexual innovation: America created the world's most arousing woman: Betty Rubble. (Wilma Flintstone was just a failed prototype) [This message has been edited by cactus (edited 25-09-2002).]

I love America because it forces its imperialist values on other countries in the blind belief that it is actually doing the world good. I also love that America cannot figure out why the rest of the world hates them... and if they give it a go, the best they can come up with is envy. You have to love a country like that

The Simpsons Twin Peaks By far the best two things to come out of America, and the best television ever.

Sorry to say this - but it has more than 250 million americans in it and the vast majority want to stay at home - making it safer for us out side of America to be in shopping centres without hearing obscenely loud people screaming out -'oh my god look how expensive it is' or 'its better in america its better at home' [This message has been edited by Joseph27 (edited 25-09-2002).]

"truth is a group of metaphors, metonyms, and anthropomorphisms; a sum of human relation which is poetically and rhetorically intensified, metamorphosed and adored so that after a long time it is then codified in the binding canon."

I love America because without them I would not be able to speak free, because it is a great country with so much natural wonders ... oh, and I love Amerika because they brought the world American Pizza, Burgerking , Corvette's , Computers , Shopping Mall's , Sharon Stone, Star Trek and the American way of life. 'I also love that America cannot figure out why the rest of the world hates them... and if they give it a go, the best they can come up with is envy.' god how true is that, similar situations with man-u fans as well, but that's another topic how about what we like about americans instead of america, or is that hijacking the thread. I'd go for, they always seem to have something to say and lots of energy with it, which usually means a half interesting evening at least, as opposed to the very conservative boring british !

Oh man, I miss Utah *so* much! Mountains.... I was over there frequently for biz, and Park City was just the best for boarding... if you get past the whole Book of Moron thing, the place is pretty darn cool...

How many of you on a Friday night badly needed both a handgun and a tabby cat but didn't have enough time to shop for both items? Or even if you find both your cat and your gun, don't you hate having your hands full with a magnum in one hand and the kitty in the other? This requires a country that makes Texas-sized shopping bags! --and cat-proof gun triggers. America's only country I've seen that's hosted both a cat show and a gun exhibiition under the same roof.
