"That is the funniest thing I have heard in a long while.... you only see the sun set on the GGB about 5 times a year"

***urfer, Oh Dear! Oh Dear!,
You're sour for not having seen the sun set from the Golden Gate Bridge?
What a tragedy to befall ***urfer!   Such injustice!
..there, there you poor dear, maybe you will be luckier next time

I love America because it is the land of the free and home of the brave.

I love America because I feel free and I don't get labeled names the way I do here.

I love America because I can be myself more than I can here in Singapore.

I love America because it is more my home than it is in Singapore.

I love America because I am happier there than I am in Singapore.

I love America because...I just love America \o/

And I also love America because of:

Miles Davies, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, and ok...Charlie Parker even though it's somewhat a torture listening to Salt Peanuts and Birdland.

I love America because of jazz.

Personal reasons, not for public consumption.  Things happen for a reason. Besides will be going back, just a matter of when really, again not for public consumption

Why did I love America..perhaps because of the ideals of the founding fathers.

Life, liberty, persuit of happiness. The fact that one could indulge in their choice of religion..one could speak their mind..freedom of press.

The ideal that a person could come their and start a life and raise a family.

Unfortunately all good things must end. The hijacking of American ideals has taken its toll.

When a child can divorce a parent..children carry guns to school..equality has changed to become racial and gender superiority. When you cant wear certain colours in some parts of a city or when a cop is afraid to patrol certain areas due to gangs.

What do I love about america? The past.

Dr. O - Like most Americans, my main reasons for loving America are tied in with friends and family and my hometown.  All things that wouldn't mean much to other people.

But in general:

1.  I like the independent and self-reliant personality traits that are highly valued in the US.

2.  I like the fact that uncommon patriotism ("My country, right or wrong...") is a common thing in the US.
It's cool to love your country, and always has been for most people.

3.  I like the fact that in most states of America, you can get a driver's license when you are 16.  This makes the ages of 16 and 17 infintely more fun and mobile than they otherwise would be.

4.  I like our college/university system, which places a lot of emphasis on social skills and interactions and generally becoming an independent adult as well as academics.

***urfer - In answer to your earlier question:  The US is great but it's not all there is.  I like my house too, but I don't sit around inside all day.

Walmart (As much as I used to complain about going there - right now, I'd love to be able to!)

Instead of (or in addition to) Waffle House, how about a Cracker Barrel Restaurant for breakfast!  YUMMY!

New Orleans, Cajun Food, Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest...Good old fashioned, New Orleans Blues, while sipping a martini,  in a  little "dive" in the French Quarter when it's raining cats and dogs outside!

The bayous, giant oak trees, dripping with moss, taking a slow boat ride in the morning as the sun comes up, and it is so quiet you can hear crickets chirping, the water is like glass and fish are making the slightest tiny ripples on the surface...ahhhh

People smile when you walk past them on the street...just for no reason!

And, finally, since I am certainly no fan of George Bush (either of them!) We can vote to get rid of the little creep in a few years!
