confectioners sugar is the same as icing sugar.  You can get it at any supermarket.  Sorry but I can't help you with the butterscotch bits.  Sounds lovely though so I hope someone can help.

Carefull!!!

"Confectioner sugar" is "powdered sugar" nothing else in it.

"Icing Sugar" always has one part of "starch" inside to provide a nice look even in this humide climate.

i'd love to.. their bestseller cupcake is the vanila cupcakes with vanila buttercream icing... but i like the chocolate version better.. so here's the recipe..

Cupcakes
2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 (2stick) cups unsalted butter (softened)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup light brown sugar
4 large eggs (room temp)
6 ounces unsweetened chocolate (melted, bain marie)
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- Heat oven 350 F
- In small bowl, sift together the flour and baking soda
- In large bowl, on a medium speed of an electric mixer,
 cream the butter until smooth
- Add the sugar gradually and beat until fluffy
- Add the eggs one at a time, and beat well after each
 addition
- Add the chocolate, mix well
- Add flour
- Add vanila extract
- Add buttermilk
- Use rubber spatula to make sure all the ingredients
are all well blended and batter is smooth
- Spoon the batter into the muffin tin (with cupcakes
 paper) filling them 3/4 full
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or after the cake tester
 inserted and coming out clean

Makes 2 dozen cupcakes

Vanilla buttercream icing
1 cup (2 stick) unsalted butter
6-8 cups confectioners sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 teaspoon vanila extract

- Place butter in a mixing bowl
- Add the 4 cups of sugar and then milk and vanilla
- On a medium speed electric mixer beat until smooth
 and creamy
- Gradually add the remaining sugar, 1 cup at a time,
until icing is thick enough to be of good spreading
 consistency
- Add food coloring if desired

Makes enough for 2 dozen cupcakes. Can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days

let me know hows it turn up.... enjoy..

Icing mixture always has the corn flour in it, but you can buy pure icing sugar- just get the one that says pure, or read the ingredients. 6-8 cups sounds like an awful lot though!!!

thanks for posting the recipe iwannabake!
i've been to magnolia in NYC and waited in line to buy their cupcakes - delish!
have also tasted the cupcakes from Sprinkles, the super hot cupcake place in beverly hills, where we were last summer. i waited in line and bought a dozen back here, hand carried on the plane!

anyway, you can buy the magnolia books here, i've seen copies at kino. must warn you though, that the books are a little disappointing in layout and lack of photos, etc. if you don't mind that it's a little boring in presentation (except for the cover!!!), i was told that the recipes all work well and are easy to execute.

yea.. 6-8 cups sounds a lot... it is too sweet for me so i used 5 cups of icing sugar instead. It is available here. I bought the recipe book from kinokuniya its called "more from magnolia" for about less than $50. The recipe book is easy to use and have a lot of recipe from muffin to brownies, cupcakes (duh..), cakes, etc..
