I really want to get into cooking different types of cuisine.  What bothers me is that I would have to go and buy a whole lot of different store cupboard ingredients e.g. for chinese cooking, there are so many types of things to buy.  It would annoy me if I didnt end up using them and they just sit there till the expire.   What do others do?

Welcome to the club!
I have indian, chinese, western, scandinavian, a bit of japanese, some northafrican stuff.. lots of baking products, etc. etc.
Right now I'm running out of all my chinese products that I bought on my last outstationing before Singapore. Does anybody know if there is a big chinese supermarket where I can get various soya and other sauces etc? CS and Fairprice don't have everything and I dont have time to go to 7 different places for the basics.

the thing I notice with living here is that my spices and things keep much better if I put them in small plastic containers in the fridge.  If I keep them in the cupboard they get mould on them.

If you keep yours in the fridge you should be able to keep them for ages and will probably use most of them in the end.

Just concentrate on one cuisine for a few weeks and see how it goes instead of buying loads of different types.

cookie dear,
you should be able to get most if not all, the chinese sauces that you need at NTUC.
Is there something in particular you need that you can't find it there?

Yup, things like black vinegar, never seen it there. And the fish sauce comes in only one type. I'd like to try shopping at a place with several types of each ingredient..

I bought mine at Carrefour.   And I think you can find most of the Asian stuff there too.

Thanks a bunch, I don't shop at Carrefour so had no idea it carried a wider range of asian products - any branch in particular?

You might like to ask the staff in the supermarket as sometimes they can be helpful particularly if the brands are different to the ones you are familiar with.
