Anyone know where we can find bagels around here? and I'm not talking about the frozen Lender pretend-bagels one finds in Cold Storage. Any ex-New Yorkers out there suffering from bagel withdrawl symptoms? Thanks!

The supermarket in Tanglin Mall has bagels we like (but, we are not New Yawkers   ) As soon as you walk in, they are immediately on your left where the breads are and the window into the bakery/coffee shop is.

I don't have a packet here atm, but they are flown in from America iirc.
Hope this helps you in your quest.

There used to be a bakery shop in River Valley Rd called Brooklyn Bagels.  They are no longer there but I believe they still supply to  some retail outlets.

Try looking them up in the telephone book or do a search on the net.

I think the owner sold the shop and went back to the States.  The new company is the one who supplies to cafes,  restaurants, etc.

You can get bagels at Starbucks though.

I haven't tried these, but noticed that the Cold Storage Deli counter has started selling fresh baked (I think they described them as NY) bagels.  They come from an outside specialist so they might be pretty good.  Let me know what they are like if you do try them.

The previous owner, from New York,  is still around. If I'm not mistaken, he sold it to someone (could be Starbucks' owner) I know the bagels are now supplied to Starbucks, Jasons, etc....

You can't find good bagels over here or decent pizza either. mainly the water in nyc is ideal for pizza and bagels so it's impossible to get good pizza or bagels outside of there.  Just being truthful to a fellow NYer.

This fact was pointed out on entourage as well.

If you have eaten New York bagels every other bagel anywhere in the world will not be as good.  It's true that it's the water!

you can get bagels frozen in cold storage.  you can also get them fresh in the bread section at ours (Siglap).

Whether they are good or not I don't know as I've never bought them.
