Does anyone have any experience of melatonin, supposedly a wonder drug for jet lag?   Also are there any place in Singapore where I can buy some or does it have to be prescribed by a doctor?

Thanks

Hi,
I have used it in the past (as I've grown old gracefully I have found it much easier to sleep on long flights and don't need it) and it is as good as people say. You can buy it in Watsons, Guardian Drugs etc no prescription necessary. There is also a New Zealand product on the market called No Jet Lag (how clever!) which works the same way. I've had friends use it as a sleep aid from time to time as well. I wouldn't take it if you are pregnant .. lord knows what's in it!

I use it for my one day a month 2 am workday start. It does help me feel refreshed on my early wakeup and help fall back into my regular work hours the next day. I would not use it for any long period of time. As the above post said its available over the counter at many places and comes either in 3mg or 1 mg tablets. I did some web research and found during studies that people had no major side effects taking 100 - 1000 mg plus amounts. One possible side effect however is bad or weird dreams and it could be a type of 'placebo effect' but I have noticed such.

Melatonin is ok for some people but there is an element of "hit and miss" regards effectiveness. If it works for you, you are one of the lucky ones!

Try the LIGHT on the back of the knees trick as well (Strange but true): http://www.economics.pomona.edu/mhwang/knees.html

After you arrive - an early morning walk or jog outdoors, preferably with sunlight on the back of the knees...
