i've heard that the tallest peak in Southeast Asia lies just in East Malaysia. How can i climb it? Can i just get a ticket there and hope to find a guide to take me up? Does anyone know the level of difficulty? i've very interested. tried looking through the Sabah website and was not useful...

Yes, you can climb it. Try searching the net for "Mount Kinabalu"

All you need to book is your flight and halfway accommodation (recommend Laban Rata as it has hot water).  Everything else you can book when you get there (guide, mountain pass, etc.)

You have to be fairly fit but it's for all abilities and having your own guide means you can take as long or as quick as you like to climb it.  You can even pay extra and have your guide carry your bag....... The second day is the toughest though, especially one part where you need to use ropes.  I really enjoyed doing it and would highly recommend!
