i'm having a really hard time deciding what i should do and what's not worth the time.

I'll make a start:

Day 1 - Take taxi from Changi airport to Tana Merah Ferry Terminal.

Anyone else care to continue?

...Myanmar, esp Bagan, Yangon, and Mandalay (in that order) or Cameron Highlands in Malaysia, with a two day stop in Malacca (don't forget to do the boat trip down the river there)...

i second try's suggestion: angkor wat in cambodia.  this world heritage site is worth all the trouble if you are going there by road from thailand (no paved roads, but stones and dust and dirt everywhere.)

here's a list u may wanna consider, starting from singapore:
- singapore (2 nights: night safari, sentosa, local clubs, geylang, chinatown, little india, kampong glam)
- malaysia (KL, malacca, cameron highlands, taman negara, redang or perhentian, mt kinabalu)
- thailand (phuket, bangkok, chiangmai, local hilltribes, lots of temples, caves, waterfalls)
- cambodia (siem reap & angkor wat)
- Myanmar esp Bagan, Yangon, and Mandalay (as recommended by bunnychow)
- Vietnam (i'm not sure on the nice spots.  perhaps someone can give u more details)
- Indonesia (Bali, Borobudor-check the spelling).

u may not be able to cover all in 20 days so it all depends what you really want to see & experience for your trip.  good luck!

Bali is fine but I wouldn't recommend traveling to Java (esp. Borobudur which is in Central Java). The political situation is not stable enough so safety might be an issue, especially if you're Caucasian.

I also agree that Cambodia is a must.  I was at first worried about being templed-out or having post-temple-traumatic stress syndrome, (esp after Bagan, Ayutthaya, Vietnam, parts of Indonesia and China), but Angor Wat is amazing.    They are all diff in their own way.  I would spend 3-4 days just there if not more.

However I can't recommend Phnom Penh. Their main tourist attraction are the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng museum (the school where they tortured people).  If you are a history buff it might interesting.  The people I know that have been there said if you have time ok, but if not, give it a miss.

Vietnam - go to Hanoi and the highlands from there. Also Halong bay - a UNESCO world heritage site. Or central Vietnam for the beaches in Danang, Nha Trang, and the historical city of Hue. South Vietnam for HCMC & the Cuchi tunnels, and the Mekong delta.

ps: you should also check out the newsgroup rec.travel.asia (use google.com if you do not know how to configure a newsreader) and you can find many like-minded people and also pick up pointers and refer to itineraries others have posted.

I recommend to go for rafting in Citarik river near Pelabuhan Ratu West Java. The water level is 3. Can be very interesting. Can stay at Padi-padi resort, just in front of the beach. But it's 5 hours drive from Jakarta. Contact BJ's rafting, they can provide transportation.

I will spend 5 days in Hong Kong, then 10 days in Singapore/Malaysia like Penang, Langkawi Island, Malacca, Kuala Lumpur etc.
Well, perhaps few more days in Bali Indonesia.
