Cameron Highland in KL

Heard Cameron Highland is gorgeous.  

My hubby and I are planning a holiday to drive up to CH in early Nov. This is our first trip out of Singapore since we got here 2 months ago. We may stopover in Melacca for a night.

Can anybody suggest a place to stay, where to go..etc. in CH ?? Do you know how far of the drive from Sing to Melacca then onwards to CH ?? We will try to leave Sing on Thurs morning and come back on Tue to avoid weekend traffic.

Would appreciate any advice.

We drove to the Cameron Highlands via an afternoon and a night in Malacca (about 3 hour drive from Sing).  It worked quite well although the drive up to the Highlands is tortuous - bends and homicidal traffic - be warned.  We got in about 3.00 pm after leaving Malacca about 9.00 am (and stopping for lunch at Slim River).  We stayed at the Lakehouse which was nice but IMHO overpriced and overrated.  If I went again I would probably look at "The Smokehouse" or Bala's Chalets (spelling?).
Malacca - we stay either at Heeren House or Hotel Puri.

You will find there are plenty of tours going on - walks, tea plantation, bus tours (strawberry farms etc.).  Enough to keep you busy for a couple of days.  Take good walking boots if you are going for a trek.

Go now, before the rampant, unplanned development already springing up turns it into another Genting!  Have a good trip

Yes, the drive up in the hills is tortuous. Very long windy turns, but very scenic and peaceful.

I am going to recommend you stay away from the Smokehouse. It truly is the most overpriced accomodation I've ever spent a night in. For instance, they said they had a "working fireplace", as it turns out, it was a lightbulb behind a fake log.

The hot water scalded my wife and she couldn't have a shower and the breakfast in the morning was horrid.

I complained about these very points to them and they said I was lying.

Enough said.

Its a nice area, there are plenty of places to stay, just don't get sucked into the Shixhouse propoganda on their website. Its not true.
