I regret to say that they do not exist.  There are afew B&Ws nearby but nothing else in walking distance.

It is either school bus or car to get kids to or from school.  If you lived in one of the B&Ws you would need a car to get anywhere so there is not much benefit.  You would also be living near to the prison.

Heritage View is within walking distance of Tamglin school.  Around half and hours walk, some people do this.  The condo is only a couple of years old.  If you did go for a B/W house near the school, don't worry about the prison being nearby as I doubt many escape!!  The ambiance of the immediate area surrounding the school is lovely.

Jeez - talk about lazy!  This is something that makes me sooooo mad.  Sam 1, Car is obviously one of those sad expats who I have come to dislike intensely.  Nose in the air, too much money than sense, talking about complete drivel most of the time.  Well it's not like that for all of us.

There are places within walking distance - not sure what it's called, but it's big and brown!  Also, it's complete rubbish to say that you need a car if you live in one of the black and whites.  There is a bus which runs along Portsdown Road every half hour which goes straight up to Holland Village.  I use it regularly to collect my children from after school activities - they usually travel on the school bus though - most children do.  I cannot afford to run a car, nor do I choose to use taxi's all the time - again it all adds up.  We wanted our children to go to Tanglin, but the fees are very expensive for us - we pay our own way - we have no benefits from my husbands company - not school fees, no housing allowance, no car etc etc.

My biggest hate about Singapore is Expats - AND I AM ONE!!!  But you will find there are expats and EXPATS!!!  Good Luck.

I agree with you birdie I also use public transport which is mostly quicker than waiting for a taxi  also often cleaner and certainly cheaper.   We are lucky that my husbands package includes car allowance etc., but I can think of far better ways to use the money than sitting in traffic jams and then having the hassle of parking just so that I can boast to my friends that I drive a ... whatever the "in" car is at the moment.   As you say, some ex pats have more money and certainly no sense but worse than that no humility. So keep looking Sam you will find something on the bus route to the school.

I tried to give an honest opinion in good faith and appear to have been shot down in flames by others on this board.  However, I know that is how it is on this board and I shall take the rough with the smooth.

I consider that the comments of Yes there are and Birdie speak for themsleves.  Half an hour walk and a bus frequency of one per half hour.  I do not know how old you children are, but a half hour walk in the heat of the day would not be the most suitable for a nursery or reception class child.  Add the staggered starting and finishing hours and it is even worse.  If my wife had the convenience of living near the school, but had to have me home half an hour later because I had just missed the bus and miss time with the children, there would be no benefit.  Sure I could get a taxi, but that is defeating the purpose of managing without a car.

For the record, we do have a car but it is 7 years old and looks a wreck.  That way the taxis steer clear of us.

You may have seen plenty of other advise on this board to start in a seviced appartment for at least a month and to look at plenty of places and make you own choice.  I endosre that advice.

To Birdie:
