I am looking for an island of Mersing  that has good diving and good accommodation.  I would need to hire tanks/gear etc.  Would appreciate any tips and travel agents to book through.  Cheers Elly

Tioman, definitely. Haven't been to any of the others. But would definitely recommend Tioman. Berjaya Resort is the best accomodation, but more expensive. The diving centre at Berjaya is also more expensive, but I was very happy with them. I think it was about S$50 for a dive with a dive master and all equipment included. I only went on one dive, but did lots of snorkelling. The reefs are really beautiful.

Hi Elly, Tioman for sure.

Dive Divas will be organising their diving season's last dive trip to Tioman over next weekend Saturday October 20th - Sunday October 21st.

This will be organised via the fast ferry service, which leaves Singapore at 8.30 Saturday morning and returns Sunday evening at 19.00. This is by far the most comfortable the direct way of reaching Tioman and there is still time to do 5 dives. Conditions are very favourable at the moment and visibility is reported to have improved over the past few weeks, so now is a great opportunity for a final weekend diving before the monsoon arrives.

For any further details you can get in touch with divingtrip@expatriatetravel.com

Cheers

Agreed the fast ferry is the way to go.  You might try Tioman Reef Divers (contact info for Reno and his crew can be found on the Asian Diver magazine site). Reno has great customer service, a good, fast dive boat, and knows the sites very well.  The Babura Seaview Resort/Restaurant is immediately next door--nothing fancy, but good food. If you want to go some place on the island, their happy to shuttle you around. They also have a nice, quiet 500m of beach. You could probably save 30% on your trip by contacting him directly vs. other resorts or booking via Singapore operator. Conditions yesterday afternoon were 10-12 m vis below, 1 meter swells above, sunny skies.

Just came back from Tioman yesterday and although I would agree Tioman is a great island to dive the Monsoon has arrived already and we had fair winds and waves and poor viz. Still nice dives and lots of fish, and top corals but don't expect too much at this time fo the year. We usually use
ScubaPoint on Tioman.
