We are a family of 4 ( kids 11 and 13) trying to decide whether to take a short break at Sea Gypsy resort or Rimba resort on Sibu Island. Both seem to be priced similarly.  Have visited websites of both resorts but would love some personal opinions if you have stayed at either one of these 2 places.  We won't be diving, but are interested in snorkelling, fishing and just hanging out at the beach. Thanks.

We stayed at Sea Gypsy with our two children, aged 8 months and 26 months at the time.  The staff was friendly, the place was very relaxed.  It rained one day, so we all hung out at the open air bar whilst the children played with the toy basket and ate snacks.  The beach is quiet.  The food was ok, but nothing exciting.  There is a set menu every day, which proved dicey one night as we don't eat beef and that was what was served.  All in all, though, we had a wonderful time and would definitely go again.

Went there last April and would personally not go back. The food was terrible, staff unfriendly and accomodation a bit too rustic-the kids did love it though. Far preferred Rawa though I do believe that they have spoilt it a bit in that they have built too many chalets. The beach and snorkeling at Rawa is great and the food much better than Sea Gypsey.

The accommodation at Sea Gypsy is very very very basic and not to everyones taste. Simple wooden huts with no aircon (environmentally friendly), no hot water (cold water not so cold?), no fridge (bar close by) and sand everywhere (not just on the beach. There is no real menu as all meals are set affairs. The bar is lively from time to time & the kids will love it as there are likely to be other kids. Rimba accommodation is much better but the place is likely to be very quiet without other kids.
