I need to buy a piece of lumber and rent a drill.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  Thanks for your help!

No prob;lem buying the lumber. Sungei Kudut area is ok, and there is a small place off Jalan Besar (back of McDonalds)

But...no rental shops for drills. You'll need to buy one of these.

In 2000/2001 there was a store in the Bukit Timah  mall that rented drills on the bottom floor.  Great place and the owner knew the entire contents in his store.  My FIL rented a drill from him to hang things in our flat at Maplewoods.  Good luck!  I'm aware that the info is old.
