Can anyone recommend a romantic and relaxing 5 star hotel in Bali - something along the lines of Banyan Tree.
It would only be for a weekend (1st wedding anniversary) so can be something a bit more indulgent!
Thanks!

We have tried the Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton and Grand Hyatt.  I would classify them in that order with the first two well ahead of the Hyatt which is great if you have kids.  The 4 Seasons has two locations and both are superb.  Very private with great spa.
The Oberei is okay but lousy location.

I heard about a small boutique-type hotel called Amandari near Ubud, I think.  It sounds lovely.  The website is www.amanresorts.com.   Then, clink on amandari in Indonesia for the place.  Best of luck and congratulations on your anniversary!

I'd recommend the Ritz-Carlton (one of the villas with a plunge-pool) if you want to be near the ocean.

If you want rice terraces, you can't go wrong with a villa at the Four Seasons Sayan (near Ubud).

Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay!  You get a villa with its own plunge pool, an outdoor dining and general loafing around pavillion, plus the indoor bedroom and bathroom.

You can get a 2 bedroom villa - but probably not the thing for your anniversary.

Staff are lovely, food is excellent (order the fruit plate for breakfast - it's a dellicious work of art - room service), and the landscaping is so beautiful.

Check out the Four Seasons website for specials - you might like one of  the romantic spa ideas.

We loved it. Hope we get to go back.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend, wherever you decide to go.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions - the trip is on hold at the moment but I have noted down your recommendations!

In case anyone else is interested, the frequent flyer programme with SIA (Krisflyer) are currently running a 15,000 airmiles RETURN to Bali deal. (Meaning it costs you 15,000 ff miles to get there - not that you earn this many miles if you fly there!) There are seats on all flights but they are obviously limited - great deal considering a normal ticket to Bali can be up to $600. Enjoy!

Depends on whether or not you want the beach.  I stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Jimbaran Bay which was great, and they have their own private beach.  In Ubud, The Chedi is a luxurious spa...very remote amid the rice terraces.  It's actually outside Ubud and they run shuttles throughout the day.
