We are looking to get over to NZ for some ski-ing in August but are having problems finding any flights or accomodation at a reasonable price.  The package holidays only allow for 1-2 days ski-ing in a 1 week holiday but the alternative is to get a flight only, which is incredibly expensive.  Do they have bucket shops over here?  Can anyone let me know a cheap / easy way to go ski-ing from Sing?

We were organizing a skiing hol in NZ this year (which for various reasons was postponed) and had similar problems. Forget the packages - it seems much cheaper to do organize it ourselves. We were taking about 7-8 people and got it down to under $2000 SGD - $1000 of that was the flight. The actual skiing, car hire, accomodation in NZ was relatively cheap. The cheapest flights we could find were with SQ direct to Christchurch. To cut down the cost, think about hiring a car (good chance to see something of the area) rather than taking a connecting flight.

Hi EB,
I'm all set for Skiing in August and can advise the following:
1. Go to Queenstown or Wanaka.
2. Flights to Christchurch S$1000 via Air NZ Web.
3. Internal Flights Christchurch to Queenstown call Air NZ direct in NZ (half price compared to booking in Sin.). They send  an eticket.
4. Car Hire NZ$79/day from Apex rental for Subaru Legacy Estate
5. Accom. 4 bedroom house in Arrowtown for NZ$160/day. Find accom. on www.purenz.com
Other accomodation links are via Friars/Heritage and Character/queentown plus many more.
6. Ski Tickets at the resorts NZ$275 for 5 days. See www.nzski.com
7. Ski hire at Brown's Ski shop in Queentstown. NZ$30/day.
8. For Heli-Skiing NZ$600/day.
9. Used AIG annual insurance cover as they cover all amateur sports.

It took a little work but from the reports it should be worth it!

Tried last year to book something, you might find a previous post of mine on my experiences. A "Ski experience tour" didn't even let you ski! Hence it failed!

However, am dropping off in Falls Creek in Aus in a few weeks time. Also at the prices quoted you could try France as well, similar price just a bit longer journey.
