i booked a flight (when i was in Oz) return from Johor Bahru (just across the causeway from Singapore - 40mins by bus) to Kuching for under $200 (Australian) - check with your travel agent - much cheaper to fly from JB because it's a domestic flight on Malaysian air to Kuching

Fly Malaysian Airline JohorBharu-Kuching and return at around Singapore dollar $170.
You can buy the tickets at the MA office at Singapore Shopping Centre (next to Park Mall, Dhoby Ghaut MRT).
To get to Johor Bharu airport, just book a coach (S$12 one way) which will take you from the Coptorne Orchid Inn (on Bukit Timah Road)through the Johor-Singapore causeway to Senai Airport. You can book the coach service when you book the flight.
Alternatively you can fly MA Singapore-Kuching at slightly more than double the price.
Why?  we are talking about international vs domestic flight here.
Bookings and enquiry can be done 24 hours hotline no. 3366777.

Yep Sander it right mate.........fly out of JB and save heaps , to alot of places..we did and found their bus to/from Singapore good too. We arrived back to JB on the last flight one night, but their bus to Singapore waited for it.(it is cheaper to bus back to Singapore too).
JB has a nice clean airport with good cheap food in the basement.
