Planning to go to Bali in December. Need some suggestion on hotels and what to do. Hotels seem to be extra expensive with all sorts of surcharges !! Any alternative suggestions welcome !! Also any car (with driver) suggestions ?

We stayed at a place in Candi Dasa on the South east coast.  It was great.  Away from the commercial center of Kutu Beach but close enough to Ubud to go shopping, and diving on the Liberty shipwreck, climbing the volcano, and living among the locals.  We absolutely enjoyed ourselves to bits.

Best of all, it was dirt cheap.  Our bill for all our diving, adventures, snorkeling trips, food and drinks for four adults and two kids for seven days came to less than S$1000.  The condo was a nice AC 2 Bedroom 2 Bath unit with a full kitchen.  On-site dining, and cars for hire parked at the gate all hours with drivers.

Drop me a note and I'll get you in touch with my buddy who runs the place.
