Tanjung Pinang hotel recommendation?

After 'doing' Batam and some of north coast beach resorts on Bintan (Bintan Lagoon and Mayang Sari) we decided we'd enough of the lounge-around-on-the-beach scenario and that we'd try Tanjung Pinang for a 'city break'.

Can anyone recommend a decent hotel there?  Anyone stayed at the Bintan Beach Hotel in TP and can comment?

Can we get a ferry from World Trade Centre to TP or do we still need to trundle out to Tanah Merah?

The hotel called the Bintan Beach Resort (BBR) is not exactly on a beach (it is near Tj Pinang town - nothing to do with Bintan Resort, 70km away.)

My own favourite is the Hotel Laut Jaya, because of it harbourside location.

If you want a pool, try the Rainbow or the BBR. Both are is too far out of town for my tastes.

Personally, I think the Batam View is much better value than any hotel in Bintan. We stayed at the Laut Jaya when cruising the islands with Riau Island Adventures. I like Tj Pinang's old fashioned Asian "feel". Some of my friends wouldn't be able to handle the dirt.

Was there 2 weeks ago and did a recce of hotels in town and further out. Have couple of brochures at home.  Will dig them out and send you some details, tel nos etc.  Also went on a tour of local areas - so can give suggestions and name/contact details of the tour guide who assisted (his local knowledge was really useful).
