Has anyone been to the Oberoi Lombok? If so what was your experience?

I went there last Xmas and had a fantastic time. It is really quiet and secluded so if you are looking to party then it won't be for you. The grounds and accomodation are excellent, it really is a top class resort, very quiet, the rooms are huge and you are given a very intimate service. At night the resort is dimly lit and it's just beautiful. I think they have 50 rooms and 120 staff, the food is also really good. There are a couple of day trips that you can do and I would recommend an island tour. There are lots of shops on the island for Indonesian wood etc where you can get some real bargains. The Oberoi costs an absolute packet but I would definately go back there. Also make sure that you go and enjoy some treats in the spar. Me and my husband really enjoyed ourselves..I am someone who has really high expectations but this placed surpassed them...

We stayed at the Oberoi in Bali and it was truly magical. It is set amongst the padi fields (ploughed by oxen when we were there) with direct access to the lovely beach - and the hotel gives out boogie *** to residents. I've never stayed anywhere so lovely in my life.

Thank you for your answers! It sounds fantastic!

Can you go snorkelling from there? How is the beach? Can I count on the concierge to advice me on shopping and excursions?

Can't wait!

There aren't millions of shops on this island but the hotel concierge and inhouse tour shop will be able to tell you about the best places to buy handicrafts etc. Don't forget the island is about 25 years behind Bali so you won't find millions of Sarong shops and souvenir shops. There are a couple of really nice shops at the hotel too.

Can't wait to go back..

We've stayed at both the Oberoi in Bali and Lombok and though the one in Lombok was one of the best hotels we've stayed at in the region.  Nothing is too much trouble for the staff.

Have fun

Thanks for your insight! Both Oberoi hotels seem wonderful... wish I could do both...
Nikki, which one of the two hotels did you prefer?

You can check out the Oberoi group of hotels website - they have special offers (packages).
http://www.oberoihotels.com

and for other info. you can see this site of the "Small Luxury Hotels" of the World:
http://www.slh.com

I've only stayed at the one in Bali. Very, very romantic with a sunken bath...loved walking outside the hotel grounds amongst the padi fields. We took a full day  trip (booked through the concierge) by Landrover. They take you to the plantations to see the coffee/coca/spices growing and really off the beaten track to visit a Balinese family in their home & have refreshments. You are taken to the Hot Springs where the locals go to bathe (everywhere there were delightful children waving and smiling at us), go into a quarry - an amazing sight to see men and women carrying huge & v. heavy slates & bricks on their heads barefoot up the slippery slopes...they take you up into the mountains (via wonderful countryside & rice terraces, to the rainforest restaurant. Bamboosoup was good, but you get chicken, rice too if you are not v. adventurous. It was an experience i will remember all my life and great for photo ops. The whole experience was magical - there are many things to do in Bali, I hear that Lombok is much quieter. By the way, the hotel provides free transportation shuttle service into Kuta if you want to shop there (v. tacky but cheap t-shirts etc). They will also do a car service to and from Denpasar airport.

tomahtoe,

Maren is right, SilkAir is providing a direct flight from Singapore to Lombok. Alternatively, take any flight to Bali, and then from there you take a short flight to Lombok by Merpati Nusantara Airlines. Or you can also take Garuda Indonesia through Jakarta and Yogyakarta.

But I believe SilkAir provides the most convenient flight since it's a direct flight.

BTW, you can also take a ferry ride from Bali to Lombok.

Cheers.

The Oberoi in Lombok is probably one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. We stayed in a garden villa which was wondeful.  The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Went to one of the Gilli islands for snorkeling which was superb !!!!
One word of warning though, a friend who was with us has just been hospitilised with Malaria.
