Here on a SVP.  Loved here so much that family wants to stay here (we usually spend our holiday here).  There where a lot of jobs (IT-software developer) available but companies wants a PR.  Although I am willing to get a PR, but cannot get a PR without an EP first.

Any suggestions?  Any company out there you can refer?

Honestly?  I suggest you read through the archives, get a feel for just what is involved in getting a job here, learn about the EP and PR application processes (PR is not automatically granted), read up on the state of the economy, find stats on how many local IT "specialists" there are, and rethink your plan.  If you speak fluent Mandarin, you do have a chance but you need to be very special and willing to work on a local salary.

Well it's just that just last year a few months back I got an answer from a company here while I'm still working with another company overseas.  But wasn't able to commit since I am still at that time bounded to a contract.  It is just so sad that that kind of opportunity ran out when I am already free.

Not to mention the positions that I were applying for more than a month ago is still being advertised up till now.  Still looks like that I have a chance in terms of job availability, but I guess companies nowadays don't like to go through the long process of applying for an EP.

Mandarin?  Well still a newbie and studying it.  With terms of local salary I did just that.  I even lowered it to that of the salary being offered by one company.

Hey tourist.
mandarin is not mandatory in most jobs, except maybe for a receptionist, or such jobs where you are in contact with a certain class of people who are not really well educated and so on.

Most jobs are good for English speakers.

If your core competency is in an area where there are no locals available then its no problem getting an EP, else, if someone can get a local, why pay for EP to the Govt ? You need to look harder, and like someone said, be prepared to accept an offer at local terms ($4K to $7, medical benefits for the employee only, no housing allowance or any other allowance, for that matter, no car allowance, no this no that, no **** !!) Thats what the Singapore govt wants, expats who are ready to work on local package and integrate with the masses rather than the high and mighty expats living  on Orchard road or Holland V

Don't forget, once you accept a local package, it will be difficult to get an expat package, which is what every expat desires, right ?

Try spending AT LEAST six months here before you will find a job, if your lucky. Unless of course a miracle happens but this is singapore and coming here as a tourist and trying to find a job is almost next to impossible. Trust me, I did this and I spent more than 7 months here before my first job and I tell you, it's not easy. Good luck to you.

I just can't understand it. You like it here, you're talented and they're not offering you a job(s).

I mean all you want is low taxes, expat package, swimming pool, expenses paid, first class everywhere and champagne brekkies at the Fullerton once a week. Is that too much to ask.

Surely after 7 years of recession, they can squeeze out a job for you let alone all the retrenched locals. Can't understand it myself.

Have you considered migrating here?

I just find this board and I stayed very interested in this case.
I´m looking for a job in Singapore but only on internet employment agencies for more than 2 years, I never, ever got any reply to my resume. I´m product manager with more than 10 years experience. If the friend here said that it is almost impossible get a job travelling to Singapore as a tourist so I imagine that I will never have a chance. Could someone help with some tips?
Thanks a lot

Well, I really don't expect anything like an expat package or earn so I can have a brunch at a hotel or anything fancy like that.  I just want to earn and fairly save a bit.

The main reason is I want to secure a PR so I could put up my own biz in the future.  So my stay here would be more like an exposure to my career at the same time conduct a long term feasibility study.

To omdn, sorry no tips, I needed some myself if you noticed.  Already 8 weeks now, and extended again for 3 more weeks with nothing yet.  Though I'm enjoying my stay here, you could call it extended holiday.

omdn, if you don't mind the local package then you might want to check out the following websites: www.jobsdb.com  www.asiaonecareers.com
bear in mind that most of the advertisers are job agencies i.e. to save you $$$ & time you might want to highlight that you can be do email or phone interview and arrange as many final interview as possible before coming to Singapore. 2-3 months of waiting is quite common here.

From speedy trucker: "mandarin is not mandatory in most jobs, except maybe for a receptionist, or such jobs where you are in contact with a certain class of people who are not really well educated and so on."

--So your point is if the position is in contact with someone who speaks Mandarin, these people are not well-educated? How about those position that require the liaison with Chinese/Taiwanese customers? So stupid of your logic.

Sad Tourist II, I don't want to open it up yet since I still don't want to take the ristk.

Jigger, some guys even said it took them 9 months to find a job.  A Canadian family also tried their time here for 3 weeks, they went back home also with nothing.

OldAbe, I am renting out an HDB flat and the rent is SGD 1100 per month semi-furnished.  Utility bills are included in the rent.
